Software to grab audio from personal dvds - thegeezer3 - 2011-02-05

I'm trying to find software to grab the japanese audio from a DVD. Id like it be converted to mp3 format automatically as well. I've heard of various methods but they involve using multiple software. Does anyone know of an all in one solution
And if there isn't what's the fastest way to get the job done.

Commercial and free recommendations all good. I'm on Mac but please feel free to post other os solutions for other members benefit.

Visit http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ if you don't have it already. Then:
Code:
mencoder dvd:// -alang ja -ovc frameno -oac mp3lame -o <filename>.avi
and then:
Code:
mplayer -dumpaudio <filename>.avi -dumpfile <filename>.mp3
Good luck!

if it's short passages I find a program like Audio Hijack Pro is easiest. It can isolate record process and encode any audio played on the Mac. Also useful for grabbing audio from Flash web streams. You have to do it in real time and may have to trim your recording for neatness sake. Trimming can be done in QuickTime player, but a program that shows waveforms like Audacity is better.
Wire Tap Studio does the same thing however it is more expensive but includes audio editing capabilities.
I *think* it's possible to just rip and re-encode audio (whole disk or chapters) using VLC's streaming wizard but I've never had much luck with it really.

Audacity (free)

Audio Hijack is also very useful for recording audio from any source on the Mac. If you can hear it it can record it.
