Well it's not exactly dumpster diving (more like pre-dumpster diving).

I live near a major city in the US with a decent japanese population.

I've been taking music lessons in japanese recently.

My teacher lives in an area where there is a fairly large
Japanese population. Turns out that the entrance of her
apartment building has an area where people place old
books (that will probably be picked up and thrown in
the trash at some point).

Most books are in English. But, I was surprised when I noticed
that a fair amount of them are in Japanese. So every week I
pick up any Japanese novels that I find in the pile.
Most books are in excellent condition.

Seems like a great way to build up a collection of Japanese
novels without spending any money...... :-)
