ahhahah i thought the same thing.

Quote:Edit: By the way, sorry I don't mean to be a troll. I just hate this device, but go ahead and buy it. I also think the PSP2 is lame as hell. (It's too expensive with no screen protector to carry around, as a portable device should be.) I did watch gameplay of Ghost Trick and it seems DS games like that have a lot of potential, but the problem is that the number of quality games on the DS is so miniscule compared to the number of them that it's hard to like, for me. Generally I just haven't been a portable gamer anyway. Everytime I use a portable system I'm always right next to a console so I see no point.
I only play portable systems because I actually like the games on those systems. 99.9% of the time I'm on a portable system, I'm at home. To me it's all about the game and not the system, so having a console really doesn't change anything for me.

I actually don't mind that there aren't THAT many great games. I've condensed my gaming so I only focus on a few games at a time, and if buying a system means I "only" get to play 10 quality games, well, I better enjoy those games.

I guess this is a good thread for me to ask for game recommendations for the DS Tongue
Overcome by childhood nostalgia, I bought a DS lite just to play Pokémon, but I'm so ignorant of the video game scene that I don't really know what else to buy. I'll only be playing maybe two or three hours per week at maximum, so I just want a few games at the most. Which means they gotta' be the best damned games available Big Grin

So, if you were to list only three DS games (excluding Pokemon) what would your recommendations be? Genre doesn't really matter, I'm not a picky soul.

I'll list my recommendations via my favorite gaming website, GiantBomb. They provide quick looks that you can judge for yourself.

Ghost Trick seems really awesome.

Picross 3D is a puzzle game where you make pictures out of blocks.

Uh, that's all I know actually. Big Grin

Only 3? No fair! LOL.

Phoenix Wright,
The World Ends With You,
Castlevania (any)

Zarxrax Wrote:About the only thing that people seem to complain about is the battery, and I'm sure a battery could be replaced without requiring an entirely new system.
I just looked at the battery comparison... wow, it might be worth waiting to see if they improve on that. I've got a DS Lite, so apparently I've been enjoying the longest battery life for DSs. I'm not the type to by a system as soon as it comes out, so it's not like I'm sacrificing anything.

Ghost Trick, Rhythm Heaven, Professor Layton.

I would throw Dragon Quest 9 in there but that would have to be the only game you play, plus it usually takes several hours per session, not per week.

I can't recommend Phoenix Wright because it only becomes really good if you play through all three.

Advance Wars: Dark Conflict
Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Mario Kart DS

Edit: If you only have limited time, I recommend Tetris DS. The online battle mode is so addictive that it actually gave me RSI..

This concerns me a bit. I live in Nipponbashi Osaka next to DenDen town. There is a shop near Namba that is a small videogame shop. They said they will get 10 in there and that people will probrably start lining up only a few hours before the store opens. I am not sure whether to believe them on that or not.

I have a feeling the lines will be starting the day before.

jacf29, apprently the reserves are selling better than when the wii sold out! O_0
If you want it aroudn launch you will need to out camp the locals.

Though I am waiting until September anyways. Big Grin Yay no stress for me.

Nintendo 3ds Japan release. Anyone getting one? - Aijin - 2011-02-03

There aren't even really that many 3DS games lined up yet, are there? I've never really understood the whole camp-out-and-buy-on-the-first-day cultural phenomenon anyway Tongue

Nintendo 3ds Japan release. Anyone getting one? - nest0r - 2011-02-03

Yeah, why not just order it on Amazon or something?

1) Queuing / camping outside the store for midnight launch is an "experience" - bit like the excitement you get queuing for a roller-coaster! What happens at the end doesn't really matter.

2) You get your hands on the device at 12am launch-day - where as people with reservations only get it at 9am next day. So that's a full 9 hours where you have the shiny desirable object all to yourself and no one else does! Major geek bragging rights!! Big Grin

I spent a hefty premium buying a GBA off eBay few weeks ahead of the US release date, and what did I have to show for it? A few hours playing a port of F-Zero on a 4" screen, and another lame racing game. That'll be the last time I get worked up about a new game system.

Maybe I'll give the 3DS a look a year from now, when the price has come down and Nintendo has produced enough units that I don't have to buy one from a scalper on Amazon.

i'm convinced that this is it. sometimes i watch it and it seems fun. =)

the only time i attended a midnight launch was when warcraft 3 frozen throne came out. actually, i didn't really want it at midnight, but since i was gonna pick it up eventually, i was doing nothing that night or the next day, and my friend invited me, i went along.

that was weird.
i found it strange to hear kids talking with old people about tower defense behind me in line.

i also thought it was funny because you could get your copy signed by the developers, and most people didn't... partly because there was yet another line for that, but mostly because we didn't care about them.

i think i got home and played like 5 games online, losing 3. i was actually ranked on the ladder, like #200 or something. but since then, i wasn't even close, hahah.

I've attended many midnight game launches (with LANs attached) and they are always fun, everyone no matter the age, social background or whatever are there for one reason, and one reason only. Halo's, Gears of war (which i didn't even buy, I just went for the atmosphere) etc It's the whole thing surrounding it, I mean no one in their right mind thought the end of Halo 2 justified the hype the game had (but but.. it was supposed to be the second coming Sad ) but just walking into a midnight lan.. taking my copy of a game into a room full of people playing and joining in was truly a memorable experience. (The fact everyone was laughing and joking until i walked in, and dominated 6 maps straight before leaving... making everyone go silent.. is besides the point)

good luck with that, the DS is still selling for about the same price it launched at!

DSlite is 120-30 ish though.

I thought the DS Lite cost about $100 (in Canada) at one point, am I crazy? I remember thinking at one point "130, huh? The price went up."

Nintendo 3ds Japan release. Anyone getting one? - nohika - 2011-02-05

I know the DSi/DSiXL are down about 30$ now. The DSis here are selling for about 140, the DSiXL...ohh, about ten dollars more. Not a HUGE amount cheaper than before, but still cheaper enough to matter to most people.
