I was going through crunchyroll and they have a good selection of anime, however a lot of them are hard subbed, and all there movies and tv shows are hard subbed so I can not hide them, when I would prefer to watch them raw. Same with some dramas and movies I will find on youtube, which have subtitles too.
My question is does anyone here have any good ideas of covering up subtitles with some item or another? I havent been able to think of anything yet, but if someone knows of something please post.

Yep, sometimes the simplest answers are the best. Just cut a piece of paper into the right size and stick it over the subtitles. On laptops and some monitors tape isn't even necessary, just stick the paper into the bottom of the screen a little and it'll stay in place.

for anime, nowadays they release it in mkv format. So you can disable eng.subs and watch it as if you where watching it raw.

If there are no softsubbed mkv's around, you could also use nyaatorrents or perfect dark to find an actual raw.

Uhh... I'm not fond of anime so I can't give you locations to find those raw, but for TV you can go to D-Addicts.

If your using Media Player Classic, you can use the num-pad controls to enlarge the movie so just the bottom is cropped off. Works pretty good for 4:3 anime on my widescreen, since I can just enlarge it to fit the entire screen.

The mplayer can filter it out. Add the following to your config file (in linux: ~/.mplayer/config):
