RTK 2 onyomi readings...(?_?) - Miyumera - 2012-07-12
I'm really confused about the whole onyomi thing... I just cracked open RTK2 and was going over the first chapter on kana and their kanji. I think I understand that this chapter covers how the katakana and hiragana came to be derived from kanji. So why is one katakana character stated for TWO different kanji.. eg. 多 －タ and 太 －タ . maybe I misunderstood the concept of this chapter?... and if onyomi readings are supposed to be in katakana since it's a foreign pronounciation then why is 三 －み?.. but in the RTK 2 deck in anki 三 is paired with ミ . Did Heisig mean to write the katakana mi in which case the anki is correct... or is anki wrong and it's supposed to be the hiragana mi..

み is a kun-yomi of 三.

Just had a quick look in the book, and I haven't used it, but to me it seems quite clear. Whether he uses hiragana or katakana is completely unrelated to which kana was derived from that kanji. The only thing it shows is whether the yomi in question is on or kun. He also puts a (H) and/or (K) in each frame to show whitch kana was derived.
So basicly
多 -> タ and 多 - タ
太 -> た but 太 - タ
and 三 -> ミ but 三 - み
-> is the derived kana, - is the yomi

And I thought the first 1-10 chapters was for on-yomi...and chapter 11 is kun yomi.. so why is kun yomi covered in the on yomi section?
