Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - breravin - 2010-12-19 A few quick searches hasn't really resulted in much, so I thought I'd ask: Does anyone have some recommendations for good Japanese ebooks (or manga for that matter) to be read on the iPad? I'm looking in the lower-int to int range, but any suggestions welcome. If they're free, even better. I know people have discussed reader apps such as iBunko, but I was curious about specific books people know. Also, regarding iBunko - I know it's only 6.99$, but I'd hate to just throw away money not knowing if I'd actually use it or if there's anything I'd even be interested in reading. Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - bluemarigolds - 2010-12-19 http://www.aozora.gr.jp/ Aozola has free stories. Downside is that these are stories in the public domain, so they're much older. I believe Soseki and Akutagawa's works can be found there, among others. Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - Blahah - 2010-12-19 iBunko, which breravin mentioned in the first post, includes all the stuff from Aozora.gr.jp among other places. I've tried reading some Soseki, including Kokoro and I am a cat. Kokoro is much more readable than I am a cat, which is fairly hard going even in English (because they all speak in over-complicated ways). There are listening-reading resources for Kokoro around these forums and in the Audiobook section of the RTK wiki. The first Harry Potter book is alright, but lots of the vocab is unusual (all the wizardy stuff). I really like the Kido Okamoto mystery stories. They are famously the earliest detective stories from Japan, and heavily influenced by the author's love of Sherlock Holmes. Quite readable, with good audio recordings. Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - Tori-kun - 2010-12-19 Well, I finished Genki 1 by now.. Which of these books would you suggest me reading? Or at least trying to read (Rikai-chan.. I guess I will use it to copy "s" the vocabulary and add/tag it - after story - into a Misc. Deck for anki )
Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - Blahah - 2010-12-19 Tori-kun why not have a go at The Stone Lantern by Kido Okamoto. Audio and transcript are available at the link in my previous post, and I have a good English translation if you'd like it. Just drop me a pm if you want me to email it. It's a nice detective story set in old Edo, has good historical detail and you could decipher it with lower intermediate grammar, rikaichan and some patience. Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - breravin - 2010-12-19 Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out! Are any of those audiobooks available in formats other than html? Something I could read with a nice reader app? Does anyone have some suggestion for what to get from aozora? Not even sure where to start .I also picked up the first volume of よつばと, which I'm finding quite readable. Best (free) Japanese ebooks? - Eikyu - 2010-12-19 I agree with the Kido Okamoto suggestion. There's also 銀河鉄道の夜 (Night on the Milky Way Train) that's available as an audiobook (http://rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/Audiobooks#Kenji_Miyazawa). It's a pretty simple children's book. |
