Summer kanji craziness! - johnzep - 2007-07-27 This summer vacation, I don't have extensive travel plans, so I'm going to be hitting the RTK hardcore. Today was my first day to really get down to business. I did 100 kanji going from 1150 to 1250 ![]() I also reviewed a lot of expired cards because I had been out of town for 2 days. I was out of town for the pleasure of failing my driving test...which, long story short, was a terrible, all-day ordeal. Definitely my worst experience in Japan. (And if you fail in my prefecture, the appointment for the retest is usually a month in the future...so the ordeal is continuing to unfold, like watching a train wreck in slow motion...) But maybe I'll get lucky and pass on my second time :/ The bad vibes from the 免許センター carried over into my studies today...so my initial reviews and the first set of 25 kanji I added went really slow and my motivation was super low. But in the evening, I started to get in a good groove again. So my summer kanji craziness got off to a rocky start...but now the ball is rolling! ^___^ Summer kanji craziness! - akrodha - 2007-07-27 Here's rooting for you! Summer kanji craziness! - Mighty_Matt - 2007-07-27 johnzep I feel for you having to take the driving test. Of course I don't know exactly what it's like as being from the UK I just needed a license conversion... Still needed to battle my way through the lines at the test centre though!! Summer kanji craziness! - Wakela - 2007-07-28 I failed it once. The second time I was lucky enough to strike up a conversation with the Japanese who were waiting for the same test. They had lived in the US, and had US licenses, so they were in the same boat as me and spoke English. The key difference was that they (being Japanese) had all taken a class on how to pass the test. So they had maps of the route and went over it with me telling me where the pitfalls were. Don't stop at the cross walk. Slow down, and look both ways, but don't stop. Also, speed up a little at the last straightaway. Counterintuitive stuff like that. If there are any locals waiting with you start a conversation. If nothing else you can ask for help (that you don't actually need, obviously) with your kanji cards. Summer kanji craziness! - johnzep - 2007-07-28 today, I did 1250-1350 ^_^ so lots of "Pinnacle", "hole", and "thread" kanji today. Though Pinnacle didn't work for me at all so I changed it to "Bra" and thread became "Spiderman" I have a feeling I'm going to get swamped with reviews tomorrow
