KO2001 help - spleenlol - 2010-12-10

Hey everyone. So I was wondering how you study with KO2001. I have the anki deck and I was wondering about how many cards a day do you do with this? I don't want to overload myself. Also, do you do it how the anki deck is setup- read the sentences and then do the [listen] and write the sentences? I just want to know what would be the most effective option for the KO2001 anki deck. Thanks!

Everyone does it differently.

Personally I try to read it off, and understand the meaning. If I can do this successfully, it's a pass.

Start slow with the reviews at first. I've seen many times people start too fast, since there aren't many reviews, and then get overloaded once they have multiple generations of cards coming due at once. Just work on good habits, maybe even write out the sentences, and learn a few really well. Over time you'll get comfortable with how many you can ultimately handle in a day, and how long you're willing to SRS.

Make sure you go through new cards enough at first to initially "know" the cards. There is nothing more aggravating than having the same card oming up 20 times cause you didn't initially spend enough time on it.

I am sure many others will chime in, but his is my 2 cents Big Grin

Godd Luck!

I don't know how the Anki deck is set up since I made my own. =)

For me:
At first, the sentences for 5 kanji a day. Written only, no audio, because I don't know how to extract the audio. Reviews were handled by knowing the pronunciation and the meaning as a pass. Words that I failed to read properly were written down.

It was very difficult at first. A sentence might have contained 6 new words and two grammar concepts I haven't explicitly studied (but thanks to RTK, I knew the stroke order for the kanji so it didn't look entirely foreign.) 15 sentences a day seemed very difficult at first and there were a lot of days that I skipped adding sentences to keep my review pile under control.

As I got better, I got comfortable with adding more and more, since there's less per sentence to learn, reading speed increases, etc. On some days, I'll add 5 kanji in the morning and 5 at night.

When you say 5 kanji you don't mean 5 sentences right? Would that be around 20 sentences in the morning and 20 at night? So around 40 a day?

I do this: I use the shared anki deck with the sentences and I have my own deck with only Kanji words. I review both decks daily. I do recognition and production for the sentences and only recognition for he words.

I add 5 Kanji a day. This equals to 15 sentences and roughly 20 to 25 Kanji words. I decided to do only the so called "important Kanji words" and add others later as I encounter them in the wild.

I am still new to KO2001, so take my post with a grain of salt.

Depending on the kanji, there may be 1, 2, or 3 sentences. Typically it's 3. (I bought the CD. Sounds like you didn't buy it. =) )

However, I've also started adding example sentences from tatoeba to cover all the "important" words for a kanji, so it could be 4 or 5 sentences for the kanji as well.

Yeah I didn't buy it. I used Ahibbah's KO2001 deck. >.<;

Okay that sounds great though. Thanks for all of the help guys. I will do my best Smile
