@aYa
I'm sorry to learn of Buonaparte passing away.... you have my deepest sympathy. This thread is the main reason that I have signed-up on this site.

If you are keen about the Haruki's mp3 files, you're welcome to PM me anytime. Smile

@psychopatate
Sorry for the late reply. I'm afraid to say... the Haruki mp3 file was meant for Bounaparte. If you have other request, I might be able to accommodate it provided I have the files, so feel free to PM me. Smile

Hello,
Im seriously considering going with L-R method, just like I felt that learning kanji by writing them xxx times is kinda stupid, I have the same feeling after many hours spent in Anki. I feel that what Im doing now isnt the best way to go about language learning.

I have a question about the materials, are there polish-japanese versions of those available(since buonaparte is polish)?

buonaparte's audio and text links - buonaparte - 2013-06-08

Hello Cookie Monster,

I've no idea what the best method of learning languages is, everybody must decide for themself.

L-R isn't about learning kanji, it's about learning languages on your own - that means acquiring four skills (listening, reading, speaking, and writing) and four language subsystems (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and discourse), as a whole system, through personally relevent meaningful exposure to recorded books plus parallel (e)texts: L2-L1.
It can be used to learn Japanese as well.
http://users.bestweb.net/~siom/martian_mountain/!%20L-R%20the%20most%20important%20passages.htm#_Toc346179174

Buonaparte was Polish and she did use Polish translations of some Japanese books, but she didn't polish the materials, you'd have to scan the books and make parallel e-texts.

After we decided to make some L-R materials for publico bono, we chose (broken)English, for obvious reasons.

I wish you the best of Polish, or was it Japanese?
Bye, take care,
smile at yourself first thing in the morning.

aYa

buonaparte, I have most chinesepod lessons in a parallel format, with links to their audiofiles.

I can upload them somewhere once I'm done going through them, if you need them.

edit: traditional chinese only

buonaparte's audio and text links - buonaparte - 2013-06-19

gio_gogo,
thanks for the parallel texts.
As to the audio - Number 1721 is the last lesson buonaparte has in her archives, including line-by-line, vocabulary, expansion and cleaned dialogues.

Hemingway - The Old Man and the Sea 老人与海

Ch 00 Heminway - The Old Man and the Sea audio+parallelTexts.7z
Professional audio in Mandarin + parallel hanzi-pinyin-English e-text carefully checked against the audio by an educated speaker of Mandarin, mainland China. The parallel text and pinyin by the same person.
Reupload - the old link is dead.
More Chinese stuff - see page one of this thread.

I've always wondered if the stuff posted here is of any use to anyone, the majority of members here seem to be children or very young poeple interested in manga and dorama.

Nawet jeżeli Pańskie linki są warte tylko dla mniejszości to mają one niezwykłą wartość.

Pełen wdzięczności,

buonaparte's audio and text links - buonaparte - 2013-06-20

Inny Jan,
thank you for the nice words, but I didn't expect people to say thank you here, it would only litter the thread. What I really meant is what people ACTUALLY do with the downloaded material. Delete it or forget about it most probably. The Internet is impersonal, you never know what happens with what you've done.
And it takes time, damn it, even the simple act of uploading, not to mention preparing the materials. No wonder the Admin wanted to give up some time ago, I was secretly hoping he would close the forum.

buonaparte's audio and text links - Inny Jan - 2013-06-20

Of course I can speak only for myself, but these days I listen regularly to 「かえるくん、東京を救う」 and 「羊男のクリスマス」. For later listening, I keep 「美しい村」. I tried 「ジーキル博士とハイド氏の怪事件」 in the past but somehow this piece didn't appeal to me.

It's pure coincidence but I got my copy of articles by CosCom before you posted them here. Otherwise, I would've gotten them from you.

(Ah, I thought I'd better let you know that too - I don't listen to things that are to difficult for me to understand.)

You can't expect others to change in life, but you can always change to make it easier for yourself. If the forum is in a state in which you would secretly hope it would close down, why not simply refrain from visiting? It will still exist but you won't have to think about it any longer, so it may as well no longer exist in your head.

Speaking from personal experience, this is what I've done with various places in the past and whatever stress or dissatisfaction their presence caused, dissipated. Are these places still active today? I don't know, but whatever persists or no longer exists isn't anything I ever have to think about anymore.

People are rarely thankful for the work you put into something on the internet. Sure, it's nice to be appreciated but, you know...

That said, the content and links provided by bounaparte and yourself, are certainly astounding, and it would be a great loss for newer members of the forum who do not have your website bookmarked, if this thread where to close down, along with the greater forum, one day.

buonaparte's audio and text links - buonaparte - 2013-06-20

uisukii,
you're perfectly right.
I don't expect anybody to be thankful, it doesn't matter. What really bothers me is the fact that I don't know whether what I'm doing here is not in vain or not.

buonaparte's audio and text links - uisukii - 2013-06-20

16 pages on and still attracting interest. But in all seriously, I understand how you feel. Though it wouldn't really make things on your side any different, I would be willing to almost guarantee that if you were to remove your user account and all of the content (including this thread) that someone would, within 24 hours, post up a new thread with links to the page where all of the content is available.

Though the question of whether or not efforts are done in vain is perhaps an issue which may never really be solved. The lack of follow-up on the internet is jarring at times. It's all traffic numbers, IP addresses and pseudonymous users, without being too existential about it.

You could make a thread: if you're a LR user, do you find "buonaparte's audio and text links" thread useful, post if yes. Granted there probably are a number of unregistered lurkers.

A simple experiment to carry out. An easy prophecy to disprove.
All the stuff was off line for twenty-four hours. And nothing happened. Nobody noticed.
Even if I took it off line for a week or a month nobody would notice.
Were I to learn Japanese I'd find the materials useful. So, statistically, there should be at least one person who would think the same. So I leave everything here for that one statistical person. Some links are dead, but they died 'naturally' - everything dies anyway.

By the way, the hypothetical page you mention doesn’t exist.

buonaparte's audio and text links - meeatcookies - 2013-06-21

I did notice it and thought that you've already decided in previous posts to take it off. Not only me, because actually someone wanted to dl H.Potter parallel text and wrote about dead links. I was about to upload it somewhere for them.

buonaparte's audio and text links - buonaparte - 2013-06-21

Cookie Monster,
I won't remove anything, unless somebody else does it. It might happen sooner rather than later if you mention Haaaarrrriiii pooottttaaaa openly.

I kept telling buonaparte (indeed she was buona) that she was naive and stupid, but she refused to listen to reason and always had the upper hand. She even bullied me into promising that I would upload new stuff for you.

buonaparte's audio and text links - usis35 - 2013-06-21

I did notice. And I was sorry that I didn't download the site before. So, now that it is online again, I'll do it. I think this collection of stuff is really valuable. At least for me.

So you want me to do more work and you'll be enjoying yourslelf. Thank you very much.

There are only two ways to really say 39:
1. learn whatever language/s you're learning and
2. share something useful, the way gio_gogo above did.
