For the modern English speaker who is learning Chinese and/or the culture of China, it is a invaluable resource and a jumping off place to reach out in multiple directions to learn more about China. - audio book read by Sun Xiaomei. - translations of the San Zi Jing in English, French, German, and Italian. Includes literature mentioned in the San Zi Jing. - included the characters for the San Zi Jing in both simplified and traditional form in unicode below the Flash file (scroll down) and on the text page. It looks really convenient but it's not displaying the Japanese portion in Japanese. It's more of a broken code buonaparte's audio and text links - Inny Jan - 2012-10-17 1. You don't say what content you are referring to, so you are making it harder for people who actually might be able to help you. 2. How much do you know about text encodings? (Not much? Care to use google? For example: japanese text encodings) buonaparte's audio and text links - nourished - 2012-10-17 http://i.imgur.com/T0cD0.png This is what I see any time I try to access any content from the !J-Ealign directory that was posted inside of his original L-R post. These are all html documents. If there is anything else I should share please let me know, as this is not my area of expertise. buonaparte's audio and text links - Inny Jan - 2012-10-17 Definitely looks like encoding issue. You need to find in your browser the way to change "Character enchoding", for example in my Firefox it's under: Tools>Web Developer>Character Encoding. Then select one of: Unicode Japanese (EUC-JP) Japanese (ISO-2022-JP) Japanese (Shift_JIS) One of those should work. buonaparte's audio and text links - nourished - 2012-10-17 Thank you very much that resolved my issue
buonaparte's audio and text links - usis35 - 2012-10-17 speaking of encoding issues, there is an interest resource, government videos with subtitles. http://nettv.gov-online.go.jp/index.html I cannot read the subtitles with any of these: Unicode Japanese (EUC-JP) Japanese (ISO-2022-JP) Japanese (Shift_JIS) buonaparte's audio and text links - KanjiDevourer - 2012-10-17 usis35 Wrote:I cannot read the subtitles with any of these:It should be shift-JIS, but it's a Flash issue, or in fact, an error by the Flash coders. See for instance http://dl.gov-online.go.jp/public_html/gov/nettv/gyousei/2012/20121005_mizen.subtitle in notepad++ or a similar text editor that supports multiple encodings --- it's just a special kind of text file in shift-JIS format. Maybe if you could convince Adobe Flash player to use that encoding it'd work. To that end you could try to set your 'locale' to Japanese/shift-JIS if that's possible, but I didn't really investigate into it. I just googled and found http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/1/internationalization_flex_short/internationalization_flex_short7.html . Or you could kindly ask the site admins to switch to Unicode
