Globefish Language Tool - nest0r - 2010-12-07 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7361/ "Globefish helps you read and write in foreign languages. You can translate foreign text just by highlighting it without knowing which language it is. You can compare how often phrases appear on the web, a good hint to check if your phrase is correct... ... (2) To help you with writing in foreign languages, Globefish tells you how often your phrase appears on the web. To try using this feature, please type your phrases into Globefish dashboard. For example, if you type "delivery options" and "delivery choices", you will see a bar graph telling you that "delivery options" appears much more often than "delivery choices." This way, you can get a good clue to tell which phrase would sound more natural to native speakers of the foreign language." Demo video: The phrase validation can be customized, amongst other things (such as an extra dictionary button, I set it up to use jisho.org [http://jisho.org/words?jap=YOURWORD&eng=&dict=edict] for the heck of it - Edit, changed it to [http://jisho.org/sentences?jap=YOURWORD&eng=] - Edit, changed it again to a direct Twitter search but okay you get the picture), so that for example: the first graph/count is for Japanese (it does an exact phrase search for whatever you typed), the second I customized for Twitter, and the third for Asahi because I'm too lazy to change it at the moment. Only problem is exact site just means 'search within site on Yahoo', but I guess that's because of how it counts results. Globefish Language Tool - nest0r - 2010-12-10 Anyone know how to make this tool search sites besides Yahoo when doing the phrase validation? At the least changing it to google.co.jp would be good, methinks, as I noticed the exact phrase search is glitchy for Yahoo, at least in Japanese. It would be cool if there was a way to get realtime search statistics for Twitter in terms of # of hits. Globefish Language Tool - nest0r - 2010-12-10 Cool! This is a search engine for Twitter that actually allows exact phrase searches for Japanese and gives you the number of results: http://www.taylordigital.com/twittersearch I used Add to Search add-on (thanks rich_f) to add it to my search bar and give it a keyword. Now maybe I'll check out FloatFox to view results... Edit: And remember, if you want a Japanese keyword, you'll have to type shift+space in the URL bar for the half-width space because Firefox only seems to recognize that as a separator, rather than a Japanese full-width space. Oh and alt+enter opens results in new tab. |
