Damn, I'm slow. I was patting myself on the back for coming up with this a few months ago, when there was already an app for it from early 2009:

http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/2009/05/email-n-walk-compose-emails-while-on-the-move/

"Email 'n Walk allows you to compose important email messages while on the go. Just open the application and start typing. The subject and message fields appear over the top of a instant video feed via your iPhone's camera. This way you can type AND walk without worrying about what may be in front of you."

Oh man! Anki mobile needs to have this like last week Tongue

Exactly. Anki mobile or iAnki? Or whatever. No idea if email 'n walk works in 'landscape' mode, though.

In the future we could see this plus Augmented Reality hacks where people prank you by sticking scary objects in the background. Or something.

I've seen a complaint about this app--peripheral vision. The way I see it, they'd just need to invent an iPhone that allows you to look up and around, or even swivel left and right before crossing intersections. Or even allow you to use the frontal view of the approaching intersection to alert you it's coming. ;p /sarcasm

A pair of sunglasses with a transparent computer screen behind the lens would be perfect for this. Then just have it bluetooth to your power-glove for answering the cards.

Dennou Coil, here we come! Smile

No idea why he felt the need to ruin it with 3D or refuse to upload a regular 2D version, though. Wouldn't be so bad if Youtube's 3D no-glasses options worked properly.

Try changing the videos 3d mode to cross eye, then you should be able to see the 3d without glasses. http://www.starosta.com/3dshowcase/ihelp.html

That e-mail app is pretty smart. Maybe there could be an app that makes every app have an option to go transparent with the camera in the background?

As stated above, those options don't work. I would've used 'left eye only' otherwise. Apparently a lot of ppl have trouble with the no-glasses 3D options.

I'd be happy with just Anki, when I get an iPod Touch (re: the transparency).

Well... It works for me... Though I did need to click on the change button a few times for it to register.

Originally I only had 3 options for the 3D, then when I went to change them it kept taking me to a Mentos commercial and would reset each time, and tinkering around with stuff didn't fix it, so I tried the pop-out: I then had the no-glasses options as expected, but only a black screen.

But now I just tried the popout again and it worked! I'd read that some people simply had to keep trying the link and eventually it'd work. So weird. Now if only Google would give me back the News page.

I think a less gestural Dennou Coil type interface will be better. Don't want to give those train gropers any excuses.
