Japanese for Everyone - lardycake - 2010-11-20

I have downloaded JFE + Audio, with the intention of buying it on amazon if I find that it is something I feel I can work through.

Sorry as this is an extremely basic question aimed primarily at people that have progressed quite far into the book.

How do you work through it, or if you were to start it again how would you? For example: Should I learn all the vocab on the vocab sheets before attempting the exercises so I can do them "properly" by head, or should I reference the sheets as I do the exercises? Should I learn all the vocab before progressing to the next task??

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

hey, there's actually already a thread on this textbook, with some good info in it. I really reckon this textbook is an amazing book. I wouldn't go through the memorizing individual vocab words because there are lots of words that you cannot grasp the nuances of their meaning or usage outside watching them being used. What I'm doing, at least, is mining sentences, from the grammar explanations (supplemented with DOBJG), the exercises and the answers at the back, and then the listening and reading comprehensions after I've done everything else. It's when you go through reviewing the cards in anki that the learning happens. I'm almost finished lesson 12 at the moment and this system has been working well. I'm pushing to finish by end of January Smile

Of course, you wouldn't be able to *find* the thread if you didn't know that everyone here calls it JFE Big Grin

I usually run through all of the vocab once before starting the chapter, but it's really unnecessary since usually when it brings up some new vocab, it's pretty close by for you to see what it means anways.

It's a great textbook and i love it too Big Grin
