Evernote to soon decipher JPN chars in images - Nuriko - 2010-11-05 The Evernote developers are currently asking Japanese citizens to submit samples of their handwriting in order to expand a feature that recognizes Japanese characters from images. For the details (and some Japanese reading practice), go here: http://www.evernote.com/about/intl/jp/support/hwr.php To sum it up, when this feature is up, you will be able to google-search a word you wish for Evernote to detect in an image with Japanese text. The work currently being done to finish off the feature is the addition of handwriting recognition. The form here shows many kanji with boxes below. The developers want Japanese natives to write each word in its appropriate box in order for their system to have hand written versions of each radical to match their text versions. Thanks for the topic, Nuriko. 日本語は漢字やら平仮名やら片仮名やらローマ字やら、表記体系が複雑すぎて、役に立つだけの手書きサンプルを集めるのはなかなか大変そうですね。その点、英語はなんて効率的なのだろう。日本の空港のゲート案内板もアルファベットだし。あれが日本語に置き換わることなんて考えられん。それにしても Evernote 頭いいね。That was good to know. |
