You definitely should listen to Japanese you don't understand as it will change the neuroplasti of your brain basicaly allowing the 'incomprehensible' filter to drop when you hear common words and repeated phrases. As for reading, I'm currently using manga with furigana. It really helps with my readings as I can just go over readings again when I want and they are usually repeated through the manga. I tend to learn meaning through inference which is pretty much how I learned English. Anime I tend to find less helpful as it's usually got what is alled 'talking head syndrome' where it's basically people just talking and nothing going on visually. Kids' anime probably is better for this, but I don't really watch that. Having a guiding hand in Japanese also helps (aka a mom). So learning just by reading and watching is possible, why would you skip out on things like interaction? And EratiK, there's a reason writing helps you remember better. Various studies have proven that the act or writing activates your brain in ways to help you remember as typing doesn't really. |
