srs buzz - nest0r - 2010-10-25 Anyone else get a buzz from doing Anki reviews? I've experimented and found it takes me a minimum of 8 Japanese cards or 5 English before I feel that pleasant sensation in my brain area. Each type has a different flavour and texture of evocative buzziness. srs buzz - Asriel - 2010-10-25 I've found recently that I'm not liking my reviews so much anymore. It used to be cool and I felt like I was progressing, but now it's just a chore... I'm not quite sure why this is... srs buzz - ta12121 - 2010-10-25 Asriel Wrote:I've found recently that I'm not liking my reviews so much anymore. It used to be cool and I felt like I was progressing, but now it's just a chore...spice it up somehow. What I like to do is, do a handful of reps. Then watch/listen to a video and then go back. Before I know it all my reps are done with. And it didn't feel like a chore srs buzz - rich_f - 2010-10-25 I'm trying the "review in a different place" thing. So I try not to do my reviews in the same place all the time, to avoid boredom. Even in the same house, I try to do it in different rooms, or in different chairs, or outside, or in the library... whatever works. Because yeah, it starts to feel like a chore sometimes. (That, and I'm trying to leverage that research about reviewing vocabulary in different rooms. Just for kicks.) srs buzz - nest0r - 2010-10-25 Asriel Wrote:I've found recently that I'm not liking my reviews so much anymore. I only get excited when either I'm learning something new, or the cards are information-rich and 'sticky' (e.g. cloze delete). Edit: Oh and of course when I find that sweet spot where I only just know the information for a series of cards and just 'flow'. @rich_f That's been what I look forward to most about getting a portable device. Just to constantly change context... I mean I can already do it with the laptop, but. Handheld. Which reminds me, that smoopy Japanese reader lets you customize the background (i.e. use images) so it looks like the text is floating over the image. Maybe I'll take a picture from the perspective of the back of my monitor so it looks like the monitor is a window. It would be cool if there was an app for iPhones/iPod (with rear facing cameras) where it constantly did that, so you could walk and study at the same time, treating the screen as a window. Edit 2: & iPad, I meant. esp. iPad. srs buzz - Asriel - 2010-10-25 nest0r Wrote:Might have to do with a natural desire to get outside the SRS the more you know and the less you need the SRS given overlapping information, regardless of scheduled intervals for specific cards. However, I've found that even adding new cards is just fun for the first 1-2, maybe even 3 reviews. Then I "know" them, and it gets annoying for them to come up again. Then again, a lot of these words I don't know if I'd really see in the wild too often. 廃墟 isn't really a word you see everyday, but it still annoys me when it comes up in my reviews... srs buzz - nest0r - 2010-10-25 Asriel Wrote:Then suspend 'em, tag them something like 'check back later to see if i really knew this or have forgotten it/care enough to bother with it'. ;pnest0r Wrote:Might have to do with a natural desire to get outside the SRS the more you know and the less you need the SRS given overlapping information, regardless of scheduled intervals for specific cards. I notice I have 'moods' where some cards I just hate reviewing, other times the same cards I'm in love with. Either way, I temper this with how well I know them/how important they feel to me... srs buzz - ta12121 - 2010-10-25 Same here, I'm noticing I want to get off the srs less and go more into immersion(native materials). But I like to keep a balance, or sometimes a huge in-balance. Huge reading, minimum srsing. Or huge srsing and minimum reading. But one thing still feels fun is when it's new kanji/rare obscure stuff. Sure there is a lot of kanji one wouldn't see in everyday life. But still, understanding, reading a lot of kanji in context/vocab is all part of the game(learning japanese) |
