Should I bother with the "listening" core 2000 cards? - ems573 - 2010-10-21

Hi guys,
I download the shared Core 2000 decks on Anki and have been working through them. The decks seem to include cards that aren't typically used by people here it seems, which is:

1) Cards that just say "Listen" then play an audio clip, which you then must translate.
2) A word or phrase in English, that you then translate to Japanese.

I'm wondering, are these cards worth leaving in the deck or would it be more efficient to just take them out and focus on the sentences?

Thanks

Definitly keep number 1, it made wonders for my listening comprehension
don't know about number 2, I deleted them..

You could also install an IME and enable dictation for type 1 cards.

There are actually quite a few different Core 2000 decks, out of the ones I've tried I find the question types/formating and sentence order on Nukemarine's decks the best. Anyway, 1) could be useful, 2) I can't see as too helpful.

If your looking for Nukemarine's decks, type "Core 2k/6k" in Anki's Download Shared Deck search and start with Beginner. http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=5110 for more information on how best to use them.

I'd say it really depends on where your listening comprehension is. When I tried both Core and KO, I found the audio to be really slow and boring.
Then again, I did quit the whole thing because I thought it was boring...

But I'd say if you find the audio easy to understand, to the point that you feel like "how could this possibly be helping me, all it's doing is slowing down my reviews," then stop. Otherwise, if you don't understand the sentences 100% or whatever, then go for it, I hear it really helps people boost their listening skills.

@Asriel: It really does. Currently i'm working my way a bit through core2k and concerning the sentences ijustheareverythingseemstobelikethisinjapaneseNEE. It's just a mishmash for me!! Seriously, they speak so incredibly fast (ok, I'm beginner and lack in vocabs)! It really helps and you get the hang of it -- slowly, but definitely!
