SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - gyuujuice - 2010-10-11 So I thought I would take the SAT-Subject Test-Japanese in November. I looked on the official website, looked around and I took a practice test provided online. It seems to be a little over NJLPT 4, perhaps it even reaches N3. Does anyone know where I can find any specific information on what 漢字 and grammar might be available? I've never taken a subject test before but how can they test all levels of students like this? I notcied that there is ローマ字 (2 kinds actually) in the grammar section but there is none in the reading section. This test seems poorly thought out. 皆様、どうぞよろしく御願いします。 SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - hereticalrants - 2010-10-11 Why do you want to take the test? It's only really good if you're planning on taking Japanese classes at university and want to skip a couple of the intro classes. I was thinking about taking an AP Japanese test just to show the school that I was actually doing something with my off hour, but they said that they wouldn't give me any credit anyway, soooo.... yea... Also, said off hour is mostly devoted to math homework now, rather than Japanese. Maybe I should have thought twice about taking three math classes at once... SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - gyuujuice - 2010-10-11 I will be able to skip the first two Japanese classes and it might get me a scholorship with the school so I thought I would take it, it's only an hour long test. ($20 is cheaper than two classes by FAR and away.) That sounds diffcult. Good luck with those classes. SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - stehr - 2010-10-11 I remember seeing the Japanese SAT study book at Barnes and Noble or Books-a-Million once. It was in the SAT section. SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - gyuujuice - 2010-10-11 Huh, it seems that all the subject tests are in one book. That's a bit convinient. Thanks for the heads up! SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - sheetz - 2010-10-11 According to this list it tests 410 kanji. http://www.cheng-tsui.com/downloads/supplements/ap_kanji_list I wonder which books students use because that's more kanji than what is found in the vast majority of intro Japanese textbooks. SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - gyuujuice - 2010-10-11 Thank you so much for the link. A-hah! I though it was a bit above NJLPT4 (JLPT3)! It seems they use a book called "Adventures in Japanese". I've never heard of it before though. I think I should just continue my daily study with no specific preparation for the test. I allready have two listening comprehension books -- my weakest area I supposed. 生の日本語を聞き取ろう 新毎日聞き取ろう Thank you everyone~ SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - sheetz - 2010-10-11 Actually the link I posted was for the AP Japanese test, not the SAT subject test which is entirely different. Will your university give you credit for the SAT subject test? Or is it that you will be able to skip intro classes? SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - gyuujuice - 2010-10-11 Did you mean *into instead of "intro"? If so, then yes. The subject test will allow me to skip the first semster or two and may actually help me in terms of competition. (Most colleges don't ask for a subject test but having one may be the deciding factor. )Thanks for the help though. I think both tests are arround the same level. SAT-Subject Test-Japanese - zachandhobbes - 2010-10-12 I was planning on taking in this spring. "Adventures in Japanese" is the typical high school textbook, I think. However it's ironic because my school only took us to AiJ level 2, before switching to Genki 2 for Japanese 4... no idea why. Anyway I don't learn anything from the classes in school anyway - well I do, but very little. |
