N2 - Reading - chochajin - 2010-10-08

Hello.
I'm working my way through a rather new book with lots of problems that will most likely appear in the new N2 test.

Anyways, this is about the reading part. I don't know if that's different from the old JLPT, but there are a few questions that I can't answer correctly although I (thought I) understood everything.
Here's an example:

So that was the short article and here comes one of the questions:

After reading the question, I wanted to say to the "anouncer". Then I read the answers and saw that it was not an option.
1 and 2 are stupid, so all that's left is 3 and 4. Both are true. He probably watched TV alone, so he said it to himself and to the TV. But the reason why he said it was to criticize the anouncer and the TV program, so I couldn't decide between 3 and 4.
I chose 4 in the end, but 3 is correct.

Questions like that seem to be quite common and I was wondering if there is some kind of trick to get things correct when it's a 50:50 decision. Am I missing something?? Sad

Your typo for 言った?

Anyway, I think they just want to see if you know that it was just the guy expressing his feelings rather than actually talking to anybody.

Haha, now this is interesting. I agree, I thought he said to the announcer, too. (I'm a native Japanese speaker.)
Like you said, both "to himself" and "to the announcer" are true, but one thing's for sure - This question is so dumb. Just nonsense. Tongue

I would have said the announcer too. Mainly because I yell stuff at the tv when I watch the news and I feel like I'm saying it to them and not myself cos I already know how I feel so there's no need to tell myself but I want to tell them!

In short, yeah the correct answer makes sense but who's to say what's correct??

Argh, yah, sorry! :/

Probably the answer that most people got correct will be the correct answer?!? For the new testing format they haven't decided on many things yet anyways. So confusing Sad

IMO that question is pretty poorly constructed; although 4 can't be right because of the 局 -- #4 doesn't say that he's saying it to the television, but to the "television station", which doesn't really make any sense.
