Keyword Lists for Beyond RTK3 - kinpatsu - 2010-10-01

I've been following this forum for some time. This is my first post. My apologies if I'm repeating old FAQs.

I completed RTK3 this year in preparation for JLPT1. I have seen a few threads about keywords and stories beyond RTK3. Has anyone come up with anything organized and substantial? Since it is unlikely we'll ever see an "official" RTK4, a forum like this one seems the best alternative. I've seen a few kanji lists, and a few one-off kanji and keywords, but nothing more ever comes of it.

If I want to continue learning characters (I realize the value of such is an often debated topic, but I do), I can learn them as I come across them, of course. But a more efficient way that stays true to the Heisig method would be to pool a list and divide them up into chapters based on primitive elements. Then assign the keywords and learn them a chapter at a time. The crucial point would be pooling the list. Obviously the kanken-1 list comes to mind, if one wants to go to 6000.

Has any work to this effect been done? If it hasn't, it hasn't; I'm on my own. But if it has, I would certainly want to refer to it.

Thanks for your help.

I recommend this. It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I think it's more appropriate for your level.

That page actually has nothing to do with what kinpatsu was asking about.

There have been strirrings at various times about assigning keywords to non-RTK kanji, but nothing really materialized as far as I know.

Here's one such thread:

Is it really more efficient to pool them and divide by primitive once you've already learned basically all the primitives? I just learn them as i encounter them.

That's why I mentioned that I know that it's not what he's looking for. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. Let me explain. Even though it's not what he's looking for, I think it's more relevant for the JPLT level he's studying for, and therefore worth taking a look at.

Given that he's studying for N1, I think it's a much better decision to use Japanese keywords instead of English ones, especially since his vocabulary should be large enough to make assigning Japanese keywords relatively easy.

Does N1 use kanji outside of RTK1?

Although not really what I was looking for, it is a useful resource. Thank you.
I was a bit misleading with my question. The point of my question was really to find how much work had been done by the community beyond RTK3, not for JLPT1 study.

I tend to think so. It helps me to contrast the different kanji with the same radical/primitive in the same study session. Worst case scenario is I make a story for one, and then months later encounter another kanji that actually fits that story better, causing a lot of confusion.

Yes I had seen this thread before and was quite encouraged when I found it. However, nothing more ever came of it unfortunately. The gist of my query was really to see if this had developed further.
