I've read Tae Kim's.

Unfortunately as I have progressed further along, I have found that Tae Kim's alone is insufficient. I am having lots of trouble with all the uses of particles apart from those specified in Tae Kim's.

Does anyone know a book or online resource that would give me a more solid understanding of all the various uses of particles or of grammar in general?

I've mostly been relying on the Yahoo JP dictionary but sometimes it is unclear.
E.g., The definition of なりと completely escapes me from studying these examples.

Thank you

I definitely second the dictionaries of Japanese grammar. Knd of pricey for the whole set, but definitely an excellent resource.

Those two teamed up with the kanzen master or どんな時どう使う books should be good enough to get you pretty far.

If you're looking towards textbooks, then I would take a look at An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese. It's nice because all the vocab and grammar is touched upon in the readings, practice problems, etc. I used it for my 2nd year Japanese class (and actually had the author teaching me) so I'm not sure how it would he for self study.

I third the recommendation for the dictionaries of Japanese grammar series,
but looking in a kokugo dictionary, instead of an 英和 one, helps as well.

DBJG/DIJG/DAJG
All About Particles

All are easily obtainable via Google pdf searches if you want to, um, try before you buy.

I rather like the book at http://www.nihongoresources.com/, it's free to read online. The only down side is that the explanations are a bit technical and dry.

While I think "An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese," is a great textbook, and have always used it for intermediate students in the past, recently I've started using Tobira instead. I've been meaning to post a review about it here since it's a pretty new textbook, but never got around to it. "An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese," will work just fine of course, but anyone looking for an intermediate textbook should really check out Tobira.

Seconded!!! I use "All About Particles" for a quick and dirty refresher when I'm reading and I don't want to be bothered by the bulky and verbose DofJG books. I later reference the DofJG books for more examples and in-depth explanations. They work together like a wine nicely paired with a dish. One makes the other better.

Dont forget you can DL the DoJG Anki deck! Use it on its own or as an accompaniment to the books.

Not exactly sure how you use a deck of 9000 grammar points without going insane

@mygbmygb -- I wish I knew, because I'd like to get some more of the 1Q books, but I came back to America... I just picked them up at my university's bookstore...

@Aijin -- Tobira? Sorry, I've never heard of it. I just recommend IJ to people because I used it and enjoyed it. I'm sure there are other good books too, but I've only used Genki and IJ in terms of textbooks.

I use it as a searchable database of grammar. When I did my JLPT2 grammar study I got a list of the grammar and just searched the deck for all of the sentences containing them and unsuspended as I went.

I'm doing the same for my JLPT1 grammar study atm but some of the rarer stuff isn't in there Sad

Thanks for the response.

For now, I've settled for this page:
http://grammar.nihongoresources.com/doku.php?id=particles

Massively awesome library of all particles and it even has English introductions to them.

Ah, is it true that there are things covered in the Kanzen Master series which are not covered by DO*JG series?
