Keep in mind one of the most active uses of applied physics this days is in medical scanners and cancer treatment stuff. The physics (and subsequent computer post-processing) behind fMRI and PET scanners is hardcore.

If you find the combination of neurology and psychology interesting though I'd suggest some of the books by Oliver Sacks. He's sort of the rock star of neurology.

just having a short paragraph understanding of things should be more than enough. The why of everything is more for specialists in the fields, and even then with science if you ask "why" enough the answer eventually ends up as, "...because that's how it is!"

Eloquent and insightful, and the cases are so remarkable that the details are engrained in your memory for ever after reading them.

So basically developing a tumor behind your retina is a great excuse to smoke pot.
To tie this into Japanese, one of my professors once jokingly told the class, "There is only one true way to test fluency in a foreign language. Get high and see if you can read a book. The number of pages you can get through with actually following the plot is the indicator of your fluency."
