It wasn't believable because it's not real Tongue

it was an amateur project, so the trailer is all that was made, no actual movie for it, from what I was told.

You can tell it's amateur because all the pokemon look like they have mad cow disease.

You say that now, but even Machete ended up as a movie.

And if you've seen Dragon Ball Evolution (the movie), we're talking same quality as the trailer here (except the pokemons, alright)

Note that the ending punch line was really great "when I catch them all".

Well, I received my copy of pokemon white yesterday! Looks very promising, and you can indeed change the settings from kana to kanji any time you want. Big Grin

PS : don't forget to set up the Wi-Fi network and use the ふしぎなおくりもの (mystery gift) option in the start menu. It will give you a ticket to an island, and on this island there is a certain legendary monster! Wink

But it ends on october 18th, so you'll have to pray you don't receive the game after that date.

I am pretty ignorant about all things video-game related, so I figured I should ask here. My friend's birthday is coming up soon, and I was thinking of buying her the new Pokemon game since she knows a little Japanese and is a Pokemon fanatic. My question is: if I get her the Japanese version will it even work on her American DS, or does she have to have a Japanese DS to play it?

It depends. From what I understand, if her American DS is a DSi or DSi XL, then Pokemon Black/White won't work. If her DS is any one of the earlier models, though, then they will work.

Aijin, I don't mean to correct Mcjoin01 here but is slightly off.

I imported a Japanese DSi and I sometimes play my Jap games on a DS lite as well.

1) Any DS games can be played on any DS system (excluding the new "3DS" or whatever since that is a completely diffent game system yada yada)

2) There are exceptions, which are:

-- two-three games that use camera made for the DSi (nothing to do with language)
--games that use extra atachments like "guitar hero" don't work on DSi (nothing to do with language)
--Downloadable games on DSi are region specific, but that shouldn't be an issue here anyways

The DS is very easy system to import for. You can even do download play with multiple systems! I say go ahead and buy it!

EDIT] The 3DS is very cool but they decided to make it region locked so that means importing is going to be a pain. Sad

I was just talking about Pokemon Black and White specifically, which are both DSi enhanced titles and fall within the scope of the DSi's region locking -- but only if you're playing them on a DSi.

Unfortunately, you're a little off too, and Mcjon01 is right. Black and White are region locked on the DSI/DSI XX/XL. They can't be played on the American versions of either. They can, however, be played on American DS, DS Lite. I believe, besides the downloadable games, Black/White are the first region locked games to be released.

The 3DS is completely region locked. DSi is region locked for "DSI specific hardware" (ie, downloadable content, Black/White).

Actually, when I first activated the kanji mode, I found it easier to follow the dialogues, which was a nice surprise.

About the 3DS... Not a very good move from Nintendo. Why must everything be locked these days?

On the other hand, if you decide to import a Japanese 3DS, you will have no other choice but to play "all japanese, all the time", so there's that. :/

Didn't they say it's down the developers? the same way the PS3 is region locked? No doubts first party games will be locked out, but there is a chance some of the 3rd party stuff will just be left unlocked. Buying a Japanese one anyway so it won't affect me too much, I'll pick up an English one next generation when they double the battery life.

Of course it's an excellent business move. I should have written "not a very good move...for us". And for the circulation of culture in general (region-locked DVDs come to mind). I guess now we'll have to import consoles as well! :p

If I were to pick up anything right this second to play DS games, I'd probably get a DS Lite used, general quality of life is much improved over the original DS, but still a far swing cheaper than the DSi or DSi XL.

And most pokemon games last a pretty long time, since there's a lot of meandering involved, but someone else would know better -- I've been out of the loop for a while.

I'm at about 70 hours, and I've played through the main game and am now exploring new areas that open up after beating the elite four. I think there's still plenty to do.
