Densha otoko Japanese subtitles - Kuma777 - 2010-09-05

I've been having some trouble with getting the Japanese subtitles for Densha otoko that I got from http://project-modelino.com/japanese-movies.htm working in VLC. I've used sub/srt/ssa files before with other dramas/movies and they've worked but for some reason not matter what I do I can't get the subs to work for Densha. Just nothing is being displayed.

I've tried converting them into srt using jubler for mac but couldn't get it to work.

If anyone has any suggestion on how to get them working I'd be extremely grateful!

Cheers.

Make sure you load the .idx file, not the .sub

Awesome stuff quincy. I have selected the idx file before when using the open file option where you can select the subs etc but it didn't work then BUT for what ever (wonderful!) reason VLC has decided to play the subs. Just had to do a little tinkering with the timer to get everything perfect which was to be expected!

Now I have the perfect excuse to re-watch Densha Otoko.

Thanks again for your quick reply quincy!

Speaking of which, is there a program to alter timings on .sub/.idx files? Aegisub does not seem to be able to do that. Shifting timing temporarily on vobsub can become quite annoying.

Open the .idx file with a text editor and insert a delay statement directly before the first timestamp.

Format of the delay statement:

delay: [sign]hh:mmConfuseds:ms
Where:
[sign]: +, - (optional)
hh: hours (0 <= hh)
mm/ss: minutes/seconds (0 <= mm/ss <= 59)
ms: milliseconds (0 <= ms <= 999)

Example showing how to make subs come up 5 seconds early:

...
# Language index in use
langidx: 0

# Japanese
id: ja, index: 0
# Decomment next line to activate alternative name in DirectVobSub / Windows Media Player 6.x
# alt: Japanese
# Vob/Cell ID: 1, 2 (PTS: 11011)
delay: -0:0:5:0
timestamp: 00:00:36:069, filepos: 000000000
timestamp: 00:00:40:407, filepos: 000001000
...

Densha otoko Japanese subtitles - aphasiac - 2011-03-16

Hi, just started watching this series and am loving it (it's alot better than the movie). Would love to use this as my first subs2srs project, as it has a good mix of business, formal and informal speech, tons of otaku vocabulary plus it's really funny/enjoyable!

Like the OP I found the exact Japanese subs from the DVD don't match the RAW shows (downloaded from d-addicts), due to commercial breaks, extra music and even some extra scenes. So after looking at all options, I've had to manually edit and re-time episode 1 using kmplayer, notepad++ and Subresync.

Download Japanese re-timed subs for ep01 here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=75BEFZ2M

Still in idx/sub format (i.e. image format) so maybe need OCRing if you want to use them in Anki. Also kmplayer only allows hotkey adjustment of +/-500ms; they look fine to me, but the subs could be out 250ms in some places (this might be useful to create buffer settings in subs2srs). Next episode to come soon SmileJ

Hey, I actually couldn't stand watching with subs due to the mistimed subs. So thanks. Big Grin

aphasiac, have you by any chance re-worked any of the other episode's subtitles?

Sorry, I've now given up studying Japanese, so can't help you. Sad

Also when I was studying, I found this show a bit too hard and each episode too long. For this reason I switched to the drama 'Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo', as it has proper text subs that are all correctly timed, 30mins per episode and the language used is really easy!

Densha Otoko is really fun though, I must finish watching the series..

Just can agree on this! Gotta see this series on aphasiac's recommendation and advise. It'd be great to have some list for beginners in SRS in order to let them know what's "in the episodes" of a series. 'Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo' is great for beginners, since it uses indeed easy language and nothing 'fancy'. One gets slowly introduced to something that could be called slang. (Forms like じゃねぇ, すげぇぃ, すいません appear often)

Understood.

At any rate, thanks for doing the first episode of 'densha otoko' and thanks for the suggestion.

Why did you give up Japanese? Not to put you on the spot but I couldn't pm you so I thought I would ask here. Did you get to a point where studying was pointless or something?

Probably because of this,

http://project-modelino.com/japanese-movies.htm doesn't exist anymore.
Does anyone have densha no otoko japanese subtitles?

Densha otoko Japanese subtitles - chamcham - 2012-02-03

Link works fine.
It redirects to the new site and then change the language to english.

The densha otoko subtitles are still there.
