new edition of 2001KO, 300 new Kanji - kriskelvin - 2010-09-02

From the Coscom page:

Quote:In 2010, CosCom added 300 Kanji characters including 196 new Joyo Kanjis. The latest 2001.Kanji.Odyssey consists of 2,301 characters.

[...]

Level 4 300 characters
(2301 in total) Joyo Kanjis used in names, or hardly used
Non-Joyo Kanjis which are commonly used
Has anybody got a list of these new additions yet?

Edit: I use 2001KO as base for a Reading-->Writing deck (similar to RTK with Japanese keywords) and would really like to add these new 300 to my reviews.

Hi Kriskelvin,

The new Joyo Kanji are given on the CosCom site at:
http://www.coscom.co.jp/japanesekanji/newjoyokanji.html

and a complete list in pdf format may be downloaded from:
http://www.coscom.co.jp/japanesekanji/index.html

Let´s wait and see if some kind soul can let us have a complete copy of the CosCom 300 Level 4Kanji.

Cheers,
Tom

Now to see if they reorganize their entire list or just organize the new ones to the list in groups of five.

To KanjiDevourer (who asked me by mail) and anyone who might be interested, some clarification to my original post:

After I finished the "normal" RtK, I started creating my own "Japanese keyword" deck in the KO2001 order, using some vocabulary as prompts, in the form e.g.

Q: 日本ご、英ご (the reading of the prompted kanji is color hilighted because of e.g. okurigana)

A: 語 (this should be written and compared as with RtK)

For the prompts, I used terms that I ideally already learned as vocabulary (I do core6k in parallel), and it's sometimes very subjective to my own associations. It's not complete (I only add cards from time to time) and sometimes I change the prompts when I learn some more useful vocabulary, But I think it's worth the effort to do this on my own rather than use some prefab keyword list, it's the same as working on your stories in RtK. So in my opinion it's a good idea to build your own deck for this reason, and because of the above I haven't published it yet. Perhaps I will when I have finished all 2001 kanji.

I used KO2001 instead of RtK ordering mainly because the sorting is based on meaning and you often learn kanjis along with those they accompany in compounds. At the moment I'm at around 600 kanji, and it's working quite well.

So I was just asking if anybody already knew about the new 300 kanji, because I found the ordering of KO the most sensible.

See this text file for the new ordering of the level 3 plus the new level 4 kanji, extracted from the sample files on the Coscom homepage.

Edit: file now includes the "old" 2001KO index as well.

this deck you made, is it a anki-deck? could you give us access to this deck?

Yes, it's an anki deck, but quite bare bones. This screenshot of a flashcard is perhaps a better explanation:

It's not done yet. I'm only at frame ~1200, as I only add flashcards from time to time. I think I will upload it when it's finished, but this could take a while.

I'd be a lot more keen if they'd record audio and sentences for the last 1200 kanji or so. The audio recordings are only for the first 1100.
