WTF.
Okay, before you question the all caps thread...
I basically switched my youtube to Japanese for fun to see the local videos. When you go to browse it shows Japanese populars rather than American. Pretty fun.
However the first time I did that today, there was a video of some chick that looked pretty, so naturally I clicked on it...
lo and behold I found a video of her making out with like a 40 or 50 year old guy for a minute or two...
I looked up the video name and apparently it's a dancer from the band AKB48...
Why does this video exist and is it normal?
Honestly I'm really creeped out now...

Eh..youtube. Youtube is home to some of the worst trolling/comments on the web. Even in Japanese.
I wouldn't be too worries, it's not ALL like that. Sure there is some crap but that' more universal imo.

By the way, that's not what culture shock means. Culture shock is not the suprise you feel when things in another culture are strange to you--that's just what it seems like it should mean based on the combination of the words 'culture' and 'shock'.
Culture shock is a mix of emotions and stages felt when you're trying to adjust and assimilate into a new culture. One of those feelings can be surprise, but it certainly isn't the most prevalent one (elation and frustration probably top the list, depending on which stage of culture shock you're in). And, if the surprise is not related to assimilation, it's not part of what would be called culture shock.
Anyway, my Youtube is also set to Japan, being that I live in Japan. In general, it's a waste of time. A bunch of people from many countries have mad a cool community on Youtube with a lot of people who are worth watching (be it Julia Nunes, or the Auto-Tune the News guys, or anything like that). This hasn't happened in Japan. The most popular videos in Japan are clips from awful TV shows, usually involving the AKB48 girls or idols in general. Ocassionally the most watched videos are snippets from bad animes. It's not really worth your time, although you'll find the occassional gem.
