Learning Japanese without Kanjii(reading/writing) - mezbup - 2010-08-24

I know several people who speak very fluent Japanese that either don't read very much or reading played little/no role in their learning of Japanese. So of course you can do it.

Personally, conversational Japanese is all you're looking to pick up so as an aside to grammar study just watch nothing but Dorama and Movies + maybe listen to radio and lookup all the words you hear, add them to Anki. You could just make them audio cards so it plays a soundclip of the word and you just recall what it means. If there are several meanings, think of them all. You ought to develop very solid listening skills with a combination of good retention of what you're learning plus heavy listening to real conversational Japanese.
