Quote:The Corpus is a useful and interesting collection of matched Japanese and English sentence pairs, however it cannot be regarded as containing natural or representative examples of text in either language

Because what you have is the Tanaka Corpus, and it's got a lot of mixed reviews.
Haven't read it yet, but here's a thread discussing what's so bad about it:

I appreciate you sharing a resource that you found helpful and you wanted to help everyone.

I'm just warning you that it might not be as good as you hope it might be.
I don't mean to be negative.

By all means, welcome to the boards.

It is still a very useful resource for getting many example sentences for unknown vocabulary. I have it bookmarked for teaching English to students.

This might be just me, but I find that decks of sentences and vocab are good when you already know what they mean, i.e. they are actually just a review. It feels like half the learning process is in making the deck.

For this reason I don't use other peoples pre-built decks. Its annoying as hell for me to find something in a deck review that I just haven't studied before.
