日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - mezbup - 2010-08-02 Hey guys, I've been working hard over the last few days to deck and entire book aimed at communicating the full range of human emotions. 627 sentences in all, fairly basic stuff really and some intermediate but nothing really too advanced. The book is by a Japanese author and is aimed at Japanese wanting to communicate their feelings in English but I figure it works both ways. Having said that I have left out some stuff which was either unnecessary or obvious translationese. One or two translations have been edited here and there. Overall I think it contains some pretty useful stuff and I hope it can be of some help to you. 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - Nuriko - 2010-08-03 Wow, thank you for your hard work! I'll be looking forward to it

Thanks a ton! 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - TaylorSan - 2010-08-03 Wow this is GREAT! I'm excited to add this to my regiment. Thank you! たくさんの愛をありがとう! (yeah I got that from the deck - couldn't help myself) 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - Thora - 2010-08-03 Thanks for sharing your work, mezbup. ![]() I thought I'd mention another book on the same topic in case anyone's interested. It was recommended to me, but I haven't read it yet. (I suppose it was a hint? haha). Other stuff I've read of hers has been excellent though (some a bit too academic) "Expressive Japanese : a reference guide to sharing emotion and empathy" by Senko K. Maynard Table of contents Description 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - pm215 - 2010-08-03 I have _Expressive Japanese_, although I only got partway through reading it and got a bit bored. I think that's because the structure of the book is mostly discussion of vocab and phrases for expressing different emotions and feelings, so it felt like there was a large proportion of "I already knew this" to new stuff for me. All the example sentences and dialogues are from sources like TV dramas or novels or essays, though, which is nice. (I did like the other book of hers I've read, _Principles of Japanese Discourse_.) 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - Thora - 2010-08-03 Thx for reminded me, pm215 - Womacks had asked about books on essay writing and I meant to reply earlier. The Discourse book was one of books I was going to recommend. What level do you think the Expressive Japanese book would be good for? Sounds like there might not be enough new content for people who read fiction, etc., but I suppose the examples would be difficult for beginners. 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - astendra - 2010-08-03 Very nice! This will be most useful for production practice. Thanks for sharing your efforts!

Are the sentences supposed to be natural Japanese or literal translations of English? 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - mezbup - 2010-08-03 yudantaiteki Wrote:It's by a Japanese author and it's meant for Japanese so I'm assuming the Japanese is correct. If you google your example there's even a DVD by that title. You must consider that that's not a sentence that's very common in English or Japanese (though there are times it would be used of course). Doesn't mean its incorrect or unnatural.TaylorSan Wrote:たくさんの愛をありがとう! (yeah I got that from the deck - couldn't help myself)This is an example of what you learn from this deck? Are the sentences supposed to be natural Japanese or literal translations of English? One section mentioned that the things in that section were far more common in English and not very much so in Japanese and so it was more of a translationese to Japanese to convey the meaning so I ommitted that section. Everything else seems decent though. It's mostly pretty basic stuff. 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - pm215 - 2010-08-03 Thora Wrote:What level do you think the Expressive Japanese book would be good for? Sounds like there might not be enough new content for people who read fiction, etc., but I suppose the examples would be difficult for beginners. The preface says: Quote:To benefit from this book, the reader should have a firm grasp of the fundamentals of elementary Japanese, including basic vocabulary and grammar. Basic knowledge of hiragana, katakana, and kanji is also expected. In terms of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test [..] the reader is expected to possess at least Level 3 knowledge. That sounds about right to me -- all the dialogues and examples come with roomaji transliterations and translations into English, so an L3 level reader can probably get by without too much dictionary lookup. So I guess L3 up to L2, especially for people who haven't been doing much reading fiction, watching dramas, and so on. Random example: chapter 39 "Denying Relevance" gives examples of the expressions 「関係ない」、「うるさい!」、「勝手にしろ」、「黙れ!」、「ほっといて!」. (The chapter's about 3 pages; the book is 77 chapters total because they're all pretty short.) 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - Thora - 2010-08-03 ah...some nice relationship-building words. :-) Might be useful for folks watching dramas. (Then again, in dramas people seem to do odd things like professing their love and asking the person to be their boyfriend/girlfriend before they've even hung out together or kissed. I think I'd need a book explaining that sort of behaviour...) 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - pm215 - 2010-08-03 I also liked this example conversation (taken from the drama _Long Vacation_) from the chapter about personal pronoun usage: Quote:涼子: はい、もしもし。 日本語で気持ちを伝える。 Express Your Feelings In Japanese DECK! - Nihonnub - 2011-02-04 I know I'm coming to this topic a little late, but is this deck still available?
