Hi everyone.
I am trying to start making anki decks from movies subtitle, and thanks to the links in this forum I found some japanese subs for some of my favourite movies.
The first problem I found is that almost all of these subs are in idx/sub format, which makes it difficult to enter into anki decks or to copy and paste.
Is there any way to convert sub files to srt, or you have some resources with subs in srt format?
For example I have tried Tonari no Totoro (by the way, the japanese sub file for this movie posted now on kitsunekko look VERY suspicious...) with no success.
If you can share your method on how you make this process, that would be very helpful.

The idea was more like the opposite, sub to srt but thanks anyway.
I already searched for a converter but since such process seems to involve a sort of OCR, even if it exist I doubt it would be much reliable on kanji writing.

a .sub file is just a series of images with an idx file to determine when to use each image. You'll save yourself a lot of time if you just make flashcards out of a different subtitle format. They are still useful for just watching the movie though. I recommend K-ON, there's subtitles of the entire first season and most of the second. It's also the easiest show to understand that I've found so far.
Also what was suspicious about the subs on kitsunekko?

As for the suspicious file, I hope they remove it soon, because one of the 2 tonari no totoro subs posted on kitsunekko actually contains a series of malicious batch files with erase/format commands. Is the upload really open to everyone there?

Ah, you're right. I was wondering why all the subs were suddenly re uploaded, and it's because they were all replaced with that file. It tries to trick you into opening it by placing it in a layer of folders so that you'll be clicking so much trying to open the next folder that you'll click the file by mistake.
Anyways the other file on the site (the one listed second) has the real subs.

To be honest, it's kind of freeing because i needed a clean slate. For some reason, it didn't manage to ruin my actual computer, only my external HDDs so I'm counting myself really lucky
