What do you do with rare proper-name kanji? - gfb345 - 2010-07-26 What do you do when you come across a rare kanji in the name of a person or place? What's your criterion for deciding whether to memorize it or not? And if you decide to memorize it, do you put it in SRS? Do you make a story for it? Or is there a better approach for these rare variants? What do you do with rare proper-name kanji? - Fillanzea - 2010-07-26 I don't memorize kanji if I come across them in the name of a person or place -- it doesn't have any context attached to it to help with memorization. If it's a kanji I need to know, I'll eventually come across it in another context. |
