Have you researched how much it will cost you to get an animal through quarintine? I suggest you do that.

Think long and hard before you do this. A dog is a sentient being, not just a pet or companion. And Japan is not the most animal friendly country. I know from experiences with animal welfare over there.

Actually if the OP is American, the requirements for bringing a cat or dog into the US are pretty low. Especially if its coming from a rabies free country like Japan. In that case I don't think you even need a certificate and there's no quarantine unless you're coming into Hawaii.

Taking a pet INTO Japan however, is considerably more difficult, expensive, and time intensive.

Oh right. Still worth looking into for the OP. I was just going by the standards of my own country where pets have to be in quarantine for 6 months+, and in some cases not allowed in at all.
