Looking for a Language Partner - Twentytw0 - 2010-07-11

Hey guys,

I originally wanted to write a few nice paragraphs detailing the idea/strategy but it came out in bullet points.

- The idea is very similar (and basically inspired by) this thread I read a while back:

http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=3621

- This is my third attempt at finishing RtK1, and I'm determined to make it my last.

- Previously, I had lost interest around the 800~ mark, because I went too hardcore and tried to do 100 a day then burned out... twice... (I really thought I could do it the second time!)

- Just like the person in the thread above, I feel much more motivated when there is that sense of friendly competition / support / not going through it alone. By having a partner, we would be able share advice, answer questions, discuss what things worked for us (like finding a good kanji story or primitive meaning), anime & music recommendations, etc.

- However, I'm trying to avoid the "race through RtK." It would be more like keeping each other motivated and working through it at a relatively steady and even pace. I would guess anywhere from 10 to 50 a day, of course it won't be the same each day. (Because we all have lives.)

- Also, I used the words, "Language Partner" not "RtK Partner" meaning that we would finish RtK1, and (hopefully) continue following the guidelines in Nukemarine's beginner thread to eventually conquer Japanese.

Where I'm at now:
I started going through RtK in the normal order once again, got to about the 580 mark, then saw Nukemarine's thread, and decided that would be a much better approach. (Getting to sentences sooner / doing something other than Kanji sooner)
I'm currently at frame #784, but starting from frame #580 I have only been going through the first 555 KO2k1 Kanji in Heisig order using Nukemarine's RTK Anki Deck.
(I would either try to speed up to catch up to you, or slow down and wait until we are at about the same level.)

So has anyone recently started RtK, restarted RtK after a break, or is somehow involved in the process of starting RtK and want to give this a try? (Maybe a group thing could work, but I'm really leaning towards one partner instead of a group.)

We could start off using AIM, MSN, Google Talk, or something. Then eventually also using Skype or Ventrilo after we get into some sentences and the speaking aspect.

Any thoughts / questions / input / constructive criticism is welcome! Smile
