I listen to a lot of chinese pop music but have yet to find anything that does it for me in japanese music. It might just be a fundamental difference in the way the sounds are pronounced, the way chinese just seems so slurred while japanese is very sharp and distinct.

Does anybody know any japanese similar in style to
-jay chou
-wang lee hom
-khalil fong
-jj lin

Do you know that Chinese pop music copies Japanese pop music?? They're pretty much the same thing.

How can you not find anything?

can you provide some backup to this? i don't know but it just seems that the ppl i listed above are more influenced by Americans (michael jackson)

in any case thank you for offering your suggestions. the songs that were ok could be great if i keep listening, and the songs that were meh could be ok too.

most of the songs listed here were quite melancholy, which is not my nature, but i'm also not into the super catchy anime pop music either except for a few exceptions.

Realism Wrote:
music i guess is almost similar but the vocals aren't. like i said, maybe just the fundamental difference of language makes the vocals different.
Realism Wrote:
better, wish he had better vocals. hoping you didn't just give links to southern all-stars lol
Realism Wrote:
a different band, but still a bit meh.
Realism Wrote:
nothing innovative going on here.
Realism Wrote:
the best one so far for me, music is stil meh
Realism Wrote:
this guys vocals are my style but the music is avg.
Realism Wrote:
2nd best like the music, the vocals are ok but no emotion, it's all the same level
Realism Wrote:
shoulda mentioned my bias towards dude vocalists. the only girl singer i liked was Boa and she wasn't japanese, i think that's because i wasn't good at distinguishing her japanese and korean songs. they just sounded good. but that was before my cpop dude phase.

music isn't there

I don't know any of the chiense artists you mentioned but...
2 chinese artists I like are:

I don't know those chinese people but here's songs I LOVE

lovely anime song:

and here's an amazing performance by a korean aritstS:

I don't like southern all-stars that much either. I only like shiori no tema and even then I only ilke this other version where this girl sang it for a performance on bokura no ongaku.

What I mean is, a lot of popular Chinese songs are in fact, not Chinese songs at all but Japanese songs. Especially those Southern All Star guys....a lot of Chinese songs copied them.

(one of the most famous Chinese songs ever, except the original Japanese version came out 13 years earlier)

(Khalil Fong's version of a Southern All Star song)

(the absolute best version)

(Chinese version of another Southern All Star song...now this is pretty bad in my opinion...the Japanese version is much better)

(Jay Chou version)

(The absolute best version, this is actually another famous Chinese song that's originally Japanese)

(Another famous Chinese song, except not as good as the Japanese version)

(Another Southern All Star song...the Chinese version is probably better here)

(Chinese version probably better here...but both are really good)

(Southern All Stars...AGAIN)

 (Southern All Stars again)

(Easily the best version)

(One of the best Chinese songs ever...maybe even better than the original Japanese version)

(The best version, one of the best Chinese songs ever...better than the Japanese in my opinion)

There are hundreds more....can't find all of them.

Before I go to bed...

Schultz, of kanji damage fame, has started an online project exploring the world of gekiteki (劇的) rock (Japanese theatrical rock). Lots of pictures and links, and people can add to it if they want. It's not J-pop, so if you don't like that, and are interested the rougher end of the musical spectrum, this may be a good place to start. Enjoy!

Contributin'. 梶浦由記 (Kajiura Yuki) is a composer (in the live video she's the one playing the piano) who's done some really good stuff and I absolutely recommend listening to a few of her songs because she does a great job at fusing traditional choir/opera singing styles with modern music. It's not music that I listen to daily and I don't have the music on my computer - her songs are generally too long and sound too much the same once you've heard a few imo - but like I said, what she does is really cool and worth listening to at least once.

(live video)

(song from the .hack//twilight anime - please don't let the connection to anime put you off as this is leagues better than the usual, boring anime songs.)

If someone knows any other band/composer - Japanese or non-Japanese - that does similar music, especially with this style of singing, please reply to this or PM me!
