OSX users: what's your favorite voice-recording software? - gfb345 - 2010-07-05

There's a lot of software out there for voice recording for the Mac. Which one do you prefer for language study?

I'm particularly interested in one that has a good voice-activated start/stop. (The one I got (Audiocorder) fails miserably at it.) I'd like to do stuff like shadowing (while wearing headphones), and record my voice whenever I say something, but skipping the stretches when I'm silent (which can be long sometimes).

TIA!

PS: what do you all think of having a wiki page where people list their favorite software for various language-study related tasks? E.g. I'm a big fan of Audacity and of the Amazing Slow Downer.

I used audacity now and then when I needed to edit some audio, but it is ridiculously unstable and has a clumsy interface.

I never bothered with shadowing or any artificial speaking techniques, but garageband is probably good enough.

I use Amadeus pro, having used Audacity for a while. Although I do like Audacity, on OSX, it really is too unstable for me to rely upon. Unfortunately, I cannot see a voice activated recording option on Amadeus pro, but editing out the silence would be a relatively simple exercise.

Wiretap has been the one that works the best for me Smile

Simple maybe, but too time-consuming to contemplate. (We're talking many silences here!) Still, Amadeus Pro as a substitute for Audacity is a useful pointer. Thank you!

This looks very promising. Thanks!
