JASSO 2010 - ems573 - 2010-06-30

Hi,
I got the Jasso scholarship this year. Has anyone else around here had this in the past? If so, how did they do the money? Do they literally just send you checks or is it paid to the university as tuition or what?

Thanks

The government sends money to my university, which then deposits the money in my bank account every month. Pretty simple.

Hmmm... how do you apply for that. I guess I should look on their website more.

That I can't answer. All I know is that at some point in the process of applying to my university's exchange program, my adviser pulled me over to tell me that I'd be getting 80,000 yen a month. I don't actually know how it happened. <_<

I've been led to believe you don't apply, but the JASSO guys find you. Sort of like a secret society. But it's not secret. I don't know the details for sure though, all I know is the government (?) is giving this money.

Thanks for the info Mcjon.

1. I go sign a paper sometime between the 1st and 10th of the month.
2. On the 25th of the month, I get 80,000 yen in my bank account.

It's pretty simple.
It was excellent for me, because my people said "Sorry, you're not getting JASSO Sad"
So then I worked real hard last summer saving up a bunch of money. Then, 2 weeks before I left, they were like "Oh, just kidding, they changed their minds. You ARE getting JASSO Big Grin"

It's pretty much one of the greatest things when it comes to being an exchange student in Japan Smile

The scholarship itself is no big secret. There's a test. If you take a high enough score, they admit you to an interview. And if they do accept you, you can go.

However, there are some odd things about your application... Firstly, you haven't taken a test, right? How is it even possible? Secondly, the results will be out next month. I can tell you that since I passed. And thirdly, the scholarship is 128000 yen per month.

So tell me. I'm curious.
Oh shit, is that a callout? You think I'm lying? Oh boy here we go.

All I wanted was some info from people who have gotten this scholarship before me. I'm not bragging, and I'm certainly not lying. Let me know if you need any more proof, but I'm not going to mail you my COE.

I have the same scholarship as this. I'm currently in the Tohoku region studying on exchange. I receive the same amount per month as well as the initial moving allowance that you will get.

Every month we sign with admin at the university and on the 17th of each month it is deposited into our bank account. We were told which bank to set up the account with in order for the money to be deposited. I have also been to the JASSO Sendai Intl House but not Universtiy House Sanjo Machi.

If you want more info PM me

There is no test for JASSO scholarship. The home school applies and the student doesn't have to do anything.

Perhaps whoever had the test was given it by the school to decide who can get entry into the exchange program, or who gets the scholarship for that school. Or maybe they are just confusing it with the Monbusho scholarship.

Of all the names you could use for a program that gives money to people.

They named the scholarship program "JYPE".
So I guess that means all the winners get "gypped/jipped"......lol........rofl....
