Anki not recognizing English input? - lucifiel - 2010-06-26
Hi, I've been trying to learn kana using Anki. However, there's a problem: it can't seem to recognize my English input! :/ I've been wondering why I went through the same kana set 5 to 6 times over, wondering why there was NO progress made at all and then I realized what was wrong.
For example: え
Answer would be: "e". I keyed in "e" but the answer shows as wrong. ><;;
However, Japanese input works like "ka" = answer: "か".

Hoping someone can offer some help before I go crazy and give up on this program.
Edit: I've looked at all the tabs under the Settings sections and still no go.

More generally, if you find the toggle that says "don't ask me to type in the answer" you'll probably find that's a faster way to do reviews, and I'd guess that was the way this deck was designed to be used. (Deck Properties->Edit->Card Templates and it's the dropdown Options).

I think there's something weird going on with this deck because sometimes, when I type in the answers the program can't detect if they're right or wrong.
Just a question, though: how does Deck comparison work? I'd like to figure that out now. ^^;; As in: comparing kana against sound and sound against kana. Or say... kanji against romanji/hiragana.

I'm guessing there is nothing wrong with the deck. You're just SUPPOSED to type in Japanese.
If you want it to check for romaji, you'll have to add a field to the card, and change the check field to be to the new field you create with the romaji answer.
