Can I Get a Job In China? - TheVinster - 2010-06-18

Do you think it's possible to get a simple job, I suppose teaching assistant, without having a bachelor's degree? I asked a man who lives in China and he stated that some places hire you on a tourist visa and then switch it over later on. That seems a bit shady although maybe the only possibility. This is just a thought, and I'm looking for resources that offer job listings. Specifically I'm looking to go to Fuzhou. I'm prepared to accept a resounding, "No," in response..

Don't know much about getting a job in China, but I'd like to know - How is this shady?

Sorry, you're probably right that it isn't shady. I'm just not sure how things work.

I believe the official law is that you have to have a bachelor's degree to teach English. Individual companies may not observe that law, but the law still stands. Whether you risk it or not is up to you, but as someone who plans to spend a lot of time in China in the future, I personally wouldn't want to risk having a big "DEPORTED" stamp in my passport. I don't think the Chinese government gives a second chance at getting a visa once you've messed up.
