I noticed that Epwing2Anki couldn't give results for certain words from JTAT's frequency report, stuff other tools don't have trouble with. I had a 'no results' for tobikomeru, for example, or kaeseru. Japanese turns into gibberish when I post here so I'm stuck with romaji, sorry.Epwing2Anki doesn't perform de-inflection on the words in the word list. Make sure that the words are in dictionary form. ja_min Wrote:I was also thinking that it would be nice to be able to import frequency reports more easily, similar to future versions of KWAT, but now I'm thinking, what if you combined JGlossator w/ Epwing2Anki, and you could do the normal list input, or just input a whole text or something. That might give more consistent results across tools. These feature might be added someday, but probably not soon. ja_min Wrote:Mixing with the frequency numbers from JTAT could also be useful, so that Anki cards can be sorted by frequency, perhaps with further sorting on types of frequency numbers...You can run the output of Epwing2Anki through cb's Frequency List Sorter. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - cb4960 - 2013-07-14 D'oh! My proofreader is so fired. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - somstuff - 2013-07-14 Awesome tool, I love it. Some suggestions: 1. An option where it chooses sentences with kanji you already know (given the user inputs a list of acceptable kanji), aside from the new word of course. 2. An option that, when your browsing through sentences to add, sorts those sentences as shortest in length first. I like simple sentences . If it did this in the automatic selection, you might get some garbage sentences.

I'm fully updating it for Anki 2, and some typos would really make it relatable, I think. I tried Anki 2 on my secondary machine and after some initial frustration--and lingering resentment--I like it, so I'm switching, albeit gradually. Maybe eventually I'll stop calling it Anki "2". I haven't tested out your Custom Media Player addon yet, or rather the port. I assume it's a port of Custom Media Player 2. Now that I think of it, sans bassplayer I didn't have problems with JDIC audio, so I suppose that part must be all right. We'll see how setting up Zoom Player for subs2srs video clip cards works. At the moment my netbook has an epileptic seizure each time Anki plays clips. Tried it yet? I mean aside from what was necessary to update subs2srs. If not, join us. Join the dark side. Maybe create a new version of that port of overture's sentence gloss addon that randomizes the gloss field results while you're at it. ;p Edit: I seem to have fixed the mplayer issues, somehow resolving two other issues once I found a solution to the mplayer video/Aero conflict. Now it seems I don't have any issues w/ Anki's default audio/video playback. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - cb4960 - 2013-07-15 @somstuff, Thanks for the suggestions. @ja_min, Now that Anki 2 is ja_min certified, maybe I'll try it again someday. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - Thora - 2013-09-14 First time using epwing2anki. Thanks for this! Unfortunately, I've hit a bit of a wall. It's not able find any dictionary entries or examples in either Edict or 2 different epwing dictionaries I tried. (The epwing dictionaries work fine with EBWin.) It seems to recognizing the word list, but for each word it simply reports "unable to find entry for [word]" (or something to that effect). Any idea what I might be doing wrong? [*Edit: After looking at the logs cb 4960 determined the problem was that my input file had quotation marks around the text. Thanks cb! I thought I'd mention it in case someone else encounters something similar. OpenOffice appears to save spreadsheets to text that way. Pasting it directly into a text editor avoids that problem. What a great program! Easy to use and very customizable. Time to donate.] Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - cb4960 - 2013-09-14 Thora Wrote:First time using epwing2anki. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - cb4960 - 2013-10-27 Hello, I have just released version 1.6.2 of Epwing2Anki. Download Epwing2Anki v1.6.2 via SourceForge What Changed? ● Updated the EDICT, Tatoeba, and Mecab databases. cb4960 Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - rich_f - 2013-10-27 Anybody have an idea of how to turn EIJIRO into an EPWING file? I actually bought a version of it a while back, and it came with a huge text file. I can search it okay in my text editor, but it would be a lot easier if I could turn it into an EPWING that would be compatible with this program, or dump it into DroidWing or EBWing. EIJIRO can be handy, especially now that ALC seems to have a lot of its version behind a paywall. :\ Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - Termy - 2014-03-27 Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but there's one thing I can't figure out how to do (or if it's possible or not). Sometimes I want to create cards with one sentence or one word as the expression (front of the card), then a J-J definition as the answer/definition. Then I always have a "hint" button where I can see the English definition or translation as well. In this hint section I'd also like to have a furigana-version of the Japanese definition, in case there are unknown words in there, or words I can't remember the pronunciation of. Example: FRONT 貴様らそれでも騎士か!? BACK 騎士 -- 馬に乗っている武士 READING 貴様[きさま]らそれでも 騎士[きし]か!? HINT 馬[うま]に 乗[の]っている 武士[ぶし] (BACK definition with furigana) それでも still (the unknown word) Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - cb4960 - 2014-03-27 Termy Wrote:Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but there's one thing I can't figure out how to do (or if it's possible or not).It is probably possible but your description doesn't match your example so it's hard for me to tell. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - Termy - 2014-03-28 Hmm... FRONT/EXPRESSION (The sentence or word in Japanese) BACK/DEFINITION (The Japanese definition of the unknown word) READING (The front sentence/word, with furigana, appearing right where the sentence/word was, which is how it is now and how it should be) HINT (The Japanese definition that appeared on the back of the card, so that would perhaps be a button in the "Setup Card Layout" called "Definition (with ruby)" or something similar?) + Example sentences in English, or the translation of the front word/sentence in English, also under hint (is this possible even, to have several card layout fields in the same Hint field?) This setup allows me to first see if I can figure out the Japanese definition of the word, then I get a little hint by being able to read the furigana version, and ultimately in the same hint field I can also look down and see example sentences or a translation in English, to further help me understand.

Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - Termy - 2014-03-28 Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering if those features were available or not. The multifield thing was a minor thing really... being able to choose which fields to use furigana for would have been nice though. Don't get me wrong though. I'll probably use this program every day for the rest of my Japanese learning career, that's how useful I think it is. It saves me a truckload of time. Maybe you can check into it if you're curious. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - Termy - 2014-03-28 Nice, I'll check that out. Thanks! Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - rantony420 - 2014-08-03 Is there a way to extract EVERY example sentence from 研究社新和英大辞典 and New 斉藤和英大辞典 into an excel document? Even if the japanese and english is both in one column this will be very useful. Epwing2Anki - Tool For Automatically Generating Anki Vocabulary Cards - MarseSnorty - 2014-08-08 I tried running the frequency report from the innocent novels through this asa sort of massively long term deck, and I get on out of memory error; thing is, I got rid of a lot of the data in excel, so it's <3MB, is there any way of getting the entire file done other than splitting it into chunks?
