Easy Import to Anki from Rikai.com - kmoeini - 2010-12-03

Hi all,

This may be common knowledge, but I thought I'd share a quick way to put rikai.com's word list into anki that I've recently discovered.

1. Copy and paste Japanese text into rikai.com.
2. Double-click on words to add them to the word list.
3. Copy and paste the word list (word and definition) to notepad. (Go back to the main page and click the 全 button in the left margin to see the word list)
4. Save as a utf-8 text file.
5. Import the file into Anki (File-> Import).

I hope this is helpful. Importing Anki cards is so simple with this method. I get the Kanji on the front, and the Furigana and English on the back.

I notice you're using Rikai.com ...
Have you tried Rikai-chan? If not, I would recommend it for sure. It's pretty much the same thing, except its an extension for Firefox (Rikai-kun for Google Chrome)

You can set up a save file, mouse over a word, hit 'S', and it will get saved. There's even an upgraded plugin floating around here somewhere that even saves the sentence it came from, the URL it's from, and a bunch of stuff.

And Rikai uses EDICT, which is the same dictionary Rikai.com uses (as far as I can tell)

Hi Asrael,

Thanks for your response. I've been using Rikai-chan for a long time, and I didn't know it had this feature. I just tried it out, but unfortunately I don't get the English meaning on the back of the card after importing to Anki, just the kanji on the front and furigana on the back. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I've got the modded version, so it might be a little different, but...
If you go into the settings of Rikaichan (Tools -> Add-ons -> Rikaichan,Settings)
and go to "Clipboard & Save" you can choose what will appear when you save it, and in what order.

You just have to make sure that these line up with your card models in Anki for it to import correctly. Might take some fiddling around with before you get it set up how you want it, but I personally find that it's worth it to just push "s" and then "import" to add new words to Anki.

Hi Azrael,

Just pushing s to save is awesome, and I'd love to get it working. I've been fiddling with the settings but I'm not really sure how to set up the entries or how to match it in the deck properties. Could anyone give me some pointers? These are my settings in rikai-chan. I'm using the basic default deck in anki. I'm also using Windows 7.

Also, I made a shared deck that's pre set-up as a vocab deck for Japanese that works with rikai-chan. Search for "rikai" in the shared decks.

Perfect! Got it working, thank you!
