How to share a file with a program - Oniichan - 2010-05-31
Could someone please tell me how to share a simple .txt file with a program on my iphone? The program asks for the exact url of the file, then it downloads it into the phone. The problem is that I have no idea how to upload a text file to the net so that this can be done. It seems that most file sharing sites require the sharee to have an email address (box), jump through hoops (mediafire), enter a password, or have special software installed. Is the oldschool way (ftp) the only way without personal server space?

If you jailbreak your phone, you can send the file to your phone manually using OpenSSH.

Also, mediafire doesn't make you jump through hoops, as far as I know. Takes me like 2 seconds to upload a .txt file there.

Can 2shared or 4shared also do that? I seem to recall they can...
Mediafire does let me directly access the .txt with that full path (well, I just tested it by making a link in an html file).

The best way to deal with those programs is to use pastebin.com. Copy/paste the copy of the txt file into a new pastebin. Submit the pastebin, the copy the url of the 'download' button at the top right. Put that URL into your iPhone app and it will download a text file.

Thanks nest0r! I gave mediafire a second look and found that you can provide an exact address to the file uploaded to the site. It took maybe 30 secs to upload it and then download it to my iphone! The rest of the time that has passed was spent playing with the app-- Japanese LS in case anyone was wondering.

This app looks like it might be useful for those who want to review kanji by drawing them when prompted with a keyword (especially a Japanese keyword). This could already be done with Kanji LS, but Japanese LS adds the possibility of showing/hiding your story while testing by creating a custom list containing the kanji, it's keyword in kana and your story (in place of the built-in translations). It's not what the programmer had in mind so today I decided to play with it a bit to see what was possible.

Good to know; I really like mediafire, for both uploading and with downloading, it's always very fast for me, with no wait, and I can download multiple files at a time without an account, plus there's the direct download thing... the only site I like as much is ifile.it, and you unfortunately can't get the full path like that there.
