The Dark Side of Danny Choo - Offshore - 2010-05-31 kainzero Wrote:I read quite a bit of Danny Choo's blog.Pretty much boils down to this in my opinion. I occasionally read the articles on his site still when I have the time and something looks interesting. I don't read much of his stuff on figures. Do I think it's a sad/pathetic/weird hobby to have? Not really. Who am I to talk about others hobbies anyway? I've got some damn weird hobbies myself I'm sure. Not all of his articles are about otaku culture and figures anyway... The stormtrooper dance is a little old now, but the first time I saw it, I thought it was pretty funny. I think it's part of his own way of keeping a piece of his past with him in my opinion since I think he was into Star Wars a long time before he became so interested in anime. Do I think others really care if he walks around wearing it or dancing in it? Nah. From most of the people I see in his pictures, they seem to enjoy it and are laughing/smiling/having a good time. If it makes people smile, then I don't really see an issue. In the end, I really doubt that Danny cares what that website (and many other people I'm sure) have to say about him and his life. The guy's living his dream, he loves what he does, he's happy, and he's had a lot of success in life. I respect that. Also, I agree that if you have these altered perceptions of Japan being some otaku haven where you'll be welcomed by maids on every street corner and find figures in everyone's house and whatnot, then you deserve to be in for a shock if you actually get there. I don't think Danny promotes these altered perceptions of Japan on his website (at least to a normal person). I think he shows that even if you're an otaku you can still be successful and very happy in life, IF you're willing to work hard and never give up on your dreams. Sure, he has figures all over his office, he reads anime and watches manga, and generally just acts like a kid a lot of the time. But he's also worked his ass off to get where he is, and I honestly don't think he's insinuating with his blog that some otaku who sits at home all day fapping to figures, never leaves the house, and all that stereotypical otaku stuff, is going to be accepted with open arms in Japan and live some perfect, successful lifestyle. The Dark Side of Danny Choo - nest0r - 2010-05-31 What a bunch of cynics. Glad you're not prominent bloggers. ;p I can only imagine what misinformation and stereotypes you'd put out there so you can get people to buy otaku gear and fund your fancy gadgets. Evil, pure evil. This will not stand. I will blacklist you from the blogger council of information integrity. The Dark Side of Danny Choo - FutureBlues - 2010-06-03 Well of course Japan had better coverage (and probably still does) than the USA. My freaking STATE itself is 2.5 times the size of Japan.
