Sometimes when I'm studying a new kanji I get confused about which directions the strokes should start from. The book tells you how many strokes but there's no arrows to show in which direction each stroke goes. However, I've noticed, most strokes are fatter at one end and skinner on the other end. Can I assume that the stroke starts at the fat end?

If you're an anki user, you might be interested in the kanjistrokeorders font. Even if not, I'm sure it can be used here with a greasemonkey script or similar...

I saw the kanjistrokeorders font but it does not indicate the direction of the stroke. I don't usually have trouble with the stroke order, but I do get confused with the direction of the strokes from time to time. Yesterday I took several hours and downloaded the animated pictures from Yamasa and inserted them into my Anki flashcards. Now I have a nice animated picture of the strokes for each kanji

With the stroke order font, I'm pretty sure you can tell the direction by where the number is placed. It's always at the beginning of the stroke, yeah?

There are very few where the direction is dubious, and in those cases you can just check the book or a site like the one you suggested

Ah, I'm a fool. Why didn't I think of that. Actually I tried to install the Kanjistrokeorders font but I couldn't do it, so I just decided to download the pictures from Yamasa. The Kanjistrokeorders font is a much simpler solution. I looked up how to install it and followed the instructions but when I went to select the font I couldn't see it. I'm on a mac computer. Is there something special I have to make it work a mac computer?
