Video Gamers Can Control Dreams, Study Suggests

"Playing video games before bedtime may give people an unusual level of awareness and control in their dreams, LiveScience has learned.

That ability to shape the alternate reality of dream worlds might not match mind-bending Hollywood films such as "The Matrix," but it could provide an edge when fighting nightmares or even mental trauma."

The relationship between video game play and threat simulation dreams

This is called lucid dreaming (dreaming when you know you're dreaming)- we discussed it quite a bit about six months ago: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=4413

Match mind-bending films? Lucid dreaming is better than any film I've ever seen because I'm in it. I control it, and I can do whatever I want. Sensation can range from as real as real life to kind of foggy like a regular dream. Go through that thread if you're interested.

Flying pigs aren't real, but lasers are. Anyway, I guess you didn't catch my Austin Powers reference, where Dr. Evil explains something as if it's novel when everyone in the conversation is well-familiar with the topic, to comic effect. ;p

"Back in the 60's, I had a weather changing machine that was, in essence, a sophisticated heat beam which we called a "laser." Using these "lasers," we punch a hole in the protective layer around the Earth, which we scientists call the "Ozone Layer." Slowly but surely, ultraviolet rays would pour in, increasing the risk of skin cancer. That is unless the world pays us a hefty ransom."

In this case, I believe I commented on every page of that lucid dreaming thread at the time it was happening, the article makes explicit reference to lucid dreams multiple times but that isn't precisely what the article is about, and by the way, I forgot to post some links to the author's other studies, gimme a sec:

Video game play and lucid dreams: Implications for the development of consciousness

No I didn't get the reference, but thanks for explaining. I knew YOU knew what lucid dreaming was- but since a lot of people might not have read remember that thread, I thought I'd explain it in brief and provide the link.

That said, don't you comment on about every page of every thread? Wink

edit: Ah I see, I said "go through this thread if you're interested" but I meant the more generic "if you (the person reading this thread) is interested." Sorry about that.
