Typing Software in Japanese - ta12121 - 2010-05-24

I remember doing something similar to this when I was in elementary school(that was like 10 years ago, grade7). There was this software that helps increase your typing speed.

For example it gives you a word or a sentence

"Typing"

Then you would try to type out that word, and see if you can get that exact same word in good speeds. Anyone know of this type of software or site that has this but for Japanese. This would help me out sooo much.

Gainax had a line of Japanese typing games a while back. Evangelion, Gunbuster & Mahoromatic Typing. They are pretty good (and can be very hard).

Here is a video of me playing the Mahoromatic version.
mahoro de manbo.avi (12 MB XVID)

If you wanted, you can also learn to type with a Japanese keyboard, instead of typing with romaji.

Just to note, I've tried all sorts of Japanese typing games, ranging from Gundam, Typing of the Dead, Typing of the Date (lol), but most of these force romaji into your eyes, so I never found them as useful.

Yea I hear ya. As for the keyboard thing, people said you don't really need to get a japanese keyboard, cuz they all use the same thing(I think).
Basically what I want is like, it gives you a kanji on screen or a complete sentence, paragraph, etc. And you just take your time to type it,etc and see if you got it correct. And the more you do so, the more you improve your typing skills. I know they have this software for english, there must be a japanese version.

I think it wasn't created with typing skills in mind, but Smart.fm's Dictation game is basically what you're asking. The difference is that you have to listen to the full sentence, you're given an incomplete version of the sentence in written form and then have to write the parts that are missing. You have a time limit to make things harder. The Dictation game is a lot of fun and it will help you with both your listening and your typing skills.

I wonder if one could add a timer plugin to the typing/comparison functionality in Anki for something similar.
