The iPhone app is not open source because I need money to eat. Having quit my regular job to work on Anki, I am living incredibly tight at the moment (and it would simply not be possible without the support of my wife). I can't afford to spend months working on an iPhone port simply to have someone take the open code and repackage it for free. If you have better ideas on how I can get enough money to live and still work on Anki then I welcome them.
Resolve, my speciality is English and Japanese translation into Spanish, so if you ever need anything related, you can count on me.
Here we have lots of people with varied knowledge and skills, so if you have any skill or idea that could be of any use to Resolve, take this opportunity to give something back.
I hope there is no problem with my making this post, and I wish the best luck and success to Resolve in his new path.
Some ideas for helping to spread the word Resolve's Iphone Anki version:
- Posting about it on blogs, Facebook, Twitter and wherever else.
- Creating guides, tutorials or any kind of explanatory or promotional video (I think that a Common Craft style "SRS in Plain English" video would be awesome and could serve as promotion if it mentioned Anki directly).
- Translating the Iphone Anki or its related documents (help files, etc.) into your native language.
- Promoting the Iphone Anki as a tool to be used by organizations that can afford it.
If you like some of this ideas and can implement them, great! If not, share your own ideas. Let's go and use our neurons for a good cause.

Nice idea. I agree that promoting, reviewing and providing study guides for the iPhone app is a good way to help drum up some business. I don't think people should blindly praise the app before they've used it, but if you use it and like it, spread the word.
Also contributing time to help where it's requested, and I hope resolve won't hesitate to ask if he needs help with anything, there are plenty of people willing to donate skills.

My only (albeit, selfish) idea for him, is to release a (for pay) Anki app for Android at some point. That way all of us Verizon users won't have to feel left out.

Resolve I am a poor student right now, but as soon as I graduate and have some income I plan to make a very very hearty donation, because if it was not for you and your program, well my life would not be the same anyways... Thank you so so much.
