Shinji Tanimura's podcast is the all-time #1 podcast to listen to for sleeping. He has the most soothing Japanese male voice I've ever heard. He's like your own personal Japanese grandpa. He just shoots the breeze about music, food, and reads fan letters (he was/is a singer/songwriter). Do yourself a favor and subscribe to this one.

Btw, I refuse to listen to women speaking Japanese all night because I don't want to develop feminine intonation patterns. Sue me. Smile

Wow! 5 years ago when studying for JLPT I thought of making a website of all the podcasts that helped by pass 2-kyuu, but I've long since lost that mp3 player and those subscriptions. I'm happy to see Nanalife is still around and #1 on the list, since that was the best (in those days). At any rate, no way my list would have been half as complete as this is!

I need a couple of recommendations. I feel it helpful to listen to Japanese about things I already have (some) knowledge about. On the English side, my iPhone is full of soccer and Mac-related podcasts. Can anyone recommend a good Japanese soccer-related podcast (preferably NOT focused on J-League) and a good general Mac/Apple-related podcast?

お願いします!

I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the link.

And thanks for the list, Nuriko. It's awesome.

Exercise / Fitness:

Two cute gaiijn female twins give Pilates lessons from their New York studio in Japanese.
They also have an English podcast. From a quick look, the English and Japanese podcasts are not the same (165 English episodes vs. 130 Japanese episodes).

Japanese:

English:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/pilates-on-fifth-video-podcast/id257660128
http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/pilates-on-fifth-video-podcast/id270967961

============================================
Also here's another podcast (pilates/yoga):
http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/id282104902

Hasn't been updated in a year.
But it has Japanese subtitles, which is good for RevTKers.... :-)

Thank you mattimus for introducing us to this very soothing じいさん。Once the intro is trimmed off, this makes for the best sleeping material. I'm already getting droopy lids listening to him z_z Smile

Thank you chamcham, especially for that second yoga podcast. Smile

As for the first one you mentioned, I really admire what those girls are doing; going to a foreign country and doing work like this with Japanese as their second language. The one who speaks in Japanese has a very strong accent though, so this would be something I would only recommend to advanced learners. It's a good test of one's Japanese to test to see how much you can detect her accent, though.

Anybody know of good podcasts in the Osaka dialect (大阪弁)?

I searched around the internet and only found this one:
http://mayumik.seesaa.net/

From what I can see at first glance it is pretty nice, especially for beginners, with the English and the transcripts.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a Japanese radio program similar to Loveline that airs in the US? It's basically teens calling in with sex and relationship problems, and I'd love to have a Japanese equivalent. The discussions can get pretty graphic and depressing (11 year old moms, bestiality, incest, etc.), so I'd be curious if such a show would even exist in Japan since they're probably not as likely to openly discuss such things.

I agree, tokyo local is one of the best, I dowloaded 7 different podcasts and everything else is nothing compared to tokyo local.
The best format and very interesting topics!

Search for japanese lessons on lingq. Its lessons are podcasts about many subjects and all of them have transcripts.

I'm no expert on dialects but I guess the ones from Osaka FM are 小坂弁, this is my absolute favourite Japanese podcast:

ピカチューブ

Does anyone know any specific interest / media podcasts?? Something about dramas, movies, One Piece, J-League etc?

My apologies, then. A lot of us follow these threads, and new posts alert us. So it's doubly annoying when people do inconsiderate things. I'm afraid my stress level is through the roof right now, and I jumped a bit hard on that one.

Anyone knows this one? I still haven't really listened to it. It seems like a radio drama, I haven't read the site yet. Seems interesting.

ゲバゲバサタデー is a "勝手な" ranking of the week's news. It's quite informal and entertaining, and you can learn about current events if you don't bother reading/listening to the news.

I really like JUNK as well, but the problem with these podcasts is that the hosts are from outside of 関東. I'm still trying to absorb the pitch accent of words I learnt without audio, and I can only stand so much news in one day Sad

Going to put out a recommendation for 池袋なう, my favourite podcast. They don't really talk about anything in particular, just random stuff, but Apple products, anime and food are common themes. I like it because it has no structure and is just a guy and a girl talking. I find it pretty funny as well.
