ちなみに、are there any good methods for downloading these things en masse? I always feel like there should be a quicker way than doing all these clicks for each file.

oh... anyone up for collaborating on putting packs of these on mediafire/whatever download site you like and posting it in the google wave? I know it's been dormant for a looong time but it seems perfect for this purpose. I'll get started on that tomorrow.
I used DownloadThemAll for many of them, including: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=95214#pid95214 (Wake up, sheeple! Start making interactive audiobooks! ;p)

For example: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=95243#pid95243 - There's no interactive audio-short story there, so don't bother looking, because you won't find anything. Nope, not a thing.

You can also subscribe via iTunes and click 'Get All'. It'll download new episodes automatically too. It's a hunk o' junk program that's best avoided if you don't have an iPod though. I've been meaning to check my settings to see if it's on 'Windows 95 56k modem simulation'.

Thanks to Nuriko anyway. I've been horribly neglecting listening because I can never find anything interesting, and the news is still too painfully difficult to survive prolonged periods. I'm liking JUNK so far. The way he reads some of the stories is hilarious.

brandon7s Wrote:Great list. Anyone want to give these a difficulty rating as well? That'd be useful for us beginners. Big Grin
When first making this list, I was considering including a rating for level of ease, but I felt like what's included in each comment showed this better than a simple 1 to 10 rating. Maybe I'll use ratings like "for advanced," "suggested for beginners" "for advanced and beginners alike" or "filled with terms specific to genre," etc. This may be good for people who aren't into reading my comments and instead want quickly see the level of ease, since I kind of run my mouth/keyboard a lot. Also, probably not all comments already include info about how easy it is, so this probably will be beneficial. Thanks for the suggestion!

Don't worry. Apparently Nest0r is a mom.

Nuriko doesn't seem like a boy's name. Also, didn't Nuriko post recordings of their voice before? Get with the program! So sexist, assuming everyone's a guy. It's people like you that helped Hitler win the war.

And I even suggested more girly podcasts than manly ones... child-raising, aroma-therapy and whatnot.
I thought for sure you'd all see through that!

Yeah if you were a guy you'd be talking about homeopathic bombs (that send people to the homeopathic ER).

I used DownloadThemAll for many of them
If you are subscribed to your podcasts RSS feeds and open them in Google Reader (in full view), you can use DownThemAll! and download all the chapters at once.

You can also use Play them all to create a m3u format playlist. Then you can listen to your favorite podcasts online directly from your favorite audio player. Note that due to a bug in the add-on you have to add the .m3u extension manually each time you create a playlist.

Edit: at this moment the link at Mozilla's site is broken, so you have to download Play them all from the author's site here. Also, Play them all is incompatible with the latest versions of Firefox, so in order to use it you have to install Nightly Tester Tools.

さすがヌリコちゃん!

Wow thanks so much Nuriko. I've been looking for more material that isn't too bandwidth heavy as I'm severely limited in Australia (one more reason to head back to Japan or the states!).

Tch, any audiophile should be unable to listen to these podcasts, as they're digitally compressed and clearly riddled with artifacts. Can't you hear it? I guess not, if you're not an audiophile like moi. I guess if this non-analog stuff is good enough for your commoner ears, that's fine for you. It's unacceptable for me, though. ;p

Rating: 8
Ease: Probably intermediate and advanced.
Review: This podcast seems to be very good in helping one become accustomed to what is considered funny in Japanese. I can see how having this on one’s playlist would really liven things up. Also, for those looking for natural, informal conversation to listen to, this is absolutely perfect.
I've listened to about 10 episodes of this- I think it's pretty funny and if my (japanese) girlfriend is in the room she laughs a lot. It's two guys that chat and make jokes, but the highlight is a section (which is most the podcast) called "みょうにへんだな。。。” where people write in about things that they found strange, and usually end up making a fool of themselves. Highly recommended.

As Nuriko mentioned, it's definitely natural and informal.

I have finally finished retagging all of these and have zipped them up. I'll post megaupload links tonight.

Here is everything that Japanese Classic Literature at Bedtime has posted thus far, minus the seven chapters of Genji Monogatari. Those files were too large and I'm going to have to break them down. Please PM me if there are any download problems. They are zip files foldered by author. Enjoy Smile

Thank you for putting a difficulty level rating on all of these; seriously handy for us beginners. Smile

Also, can anyone find an iTunes subscribe link to the 「今日の猫ちゃん」 podcast? I'm unable to find one on their home page... but since my Japanese reading comprehension is minimal, maybe I'm just missing it.

Put the RSS link into your podcast catcher, for example to subscribe in iTunes go to Advanced > Subscribe to podcast > then enter: http://kyoneko.seesaa.net/index20.rdf

I was able to subscribe to Nippon VoiceBlog through iTunes, but I can't get any of the files. When I hit GET or GET ALL, the download appears to start, but hangs indefinitely without downloading anything at all.

Has any of you managed to download files from Nippon VoiceBlog recently?

This one's a gem. You can also listen to the entire backcatalogue from iTunes. (Or at least as on as they've had a podcast.)

妙に変 is my fav. too!

No the iTunes links don't work and the links to the files on the websites also fail. I'll send an email - you should do the same and perhaps we can motivate them to fix it.

A few of you mailed me to let me know the "Misc Single Tracks" folder seemed to be broken. As such, I just uploaded the 4 individual tracks that were in that folder. You can find them here:

Ahh, you're right. Thanks for the tip. I don't mess around with podcast much; in fact the only ones I listen to are in Japanese, for learning Japanese.

And nest0r, as an audiophile, I find it difficult to listen to most of these, no doubt; but sacrifices must be made! Wink
