Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-13 Hi alxnd, 'Mass tagging' is already implemented: you can select a group of cards and add/remove tags. Was there something else you needed there? Implementing an SM importer depends on the demand and the complexity involved. I can't promise anything, but if you send me a file I'll at least know what's required. As of 0.3.2 direct HTML input is not accepted. There are now buttons to control standard formatting, and more for images and sound will be added in the future. Of course, if you import text files you can include arbitrary HTML. Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-13 Yorkii: Hmm, syncing seems to have broken for you again :-) Could you send me your local deck so I can check what the problem is? Anki? - jreaves - 2007-08-13 resolve: I asked this a while back but I think my question wasn't clear. Would you be willing to open-source the code for the web-server portion of the application, i.e., the portion that runs on repose.cx? This would be great for control freaks like me who who have their own domains and want to manage their own data on the server side, and could also defray bandwidth costs and improve response times as more and more people use the application. Anki? - Aikiboy - 2007-08-13 Hi Resolve, thanks for the work on my deck! Looks like you kept my funky primitives, sweet. A couple of things maybe you wouldn't mind helping with. First, ALL the cards are backwards for me now. :o I've been going 'kanji, recall story, keyword'. I notice the reverse option in the deck edit list. How does one flip the entire deck? I've checked the box, but it doesn't seem to help.(Funny, the first word up was 'calculate', but having no number now, I clicked on it and it brought up the RTK site. I thought Anki was going to 'calculate/resort' my deck right then!I brought edit deck and noticed it was the card 'calculate' )I was looking at the graph, it appears I've lost the 'Card ease' data. That was really nice to look at, pile 4 growing like Jack's beanstalk. History? I knocked out about a hundred kanji yesterday, chalk it up to progress and redo? BTW, when I was trying to figure out why I.E. 7 wouldn't show questions, I renamed my deck and erased the on-line deck. When I re-added the deck on-line, it was automatically named 'tango'. Is that your doing or did I decide that originally and my decks will forever be named tango on-line? Anki? - Aikiboy - 2007-08-13 Hi Resolve, one more thing, I was planning a big study session today, playing catch up. If flipping my deck around is no problem, could I resend my deck after my study session, pretty please? BTW, I'd had an extra kanji but the new deck is minus one, any way to know which kanji it was? I imagine it was a repeat, at least a mistake on my part. Thanks tons! Anki? - yorkii - 2007-08-13 resolve Wrote:Yorkii: Hmm, syncing seems to have broken for you again :-) Could you send me your local deck so I can check what the problem is?yea, spotted that last night... i'll send you the file now. Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-13 jcreaves:as I said last time, the web code is not ready for public release yet. The syncing code is already included with the client, so it's trivial to implement your own syncing server if you want to. Aikiboy: just send me your .anki file after you've finished studying, and I'll restore the card ease and reverse the cards for you. The missing kanji was a duplicate - I meant to mention it but I forgot. I'll look it up when I update your .anki file (remind me) Yorkii: thanks. It's easy to fix, but the cause is mysterious. Sounds like I'm in for a day of debugging! Anki? - Nukemarine - 2007-08-14 Got to use Anki on the phone and was very impressed. Still made a few mistakes in setting up my deck, but for a practice run it was nice. Even the grading system is cool now that I got a bit used to it. A few questions: For online study, can the deck only be developed one card at a time? For online study, can the deck be edited? When importing a deck using .txt w/ tab seperation, is there a way to automatically generate the kana pronunciations? Will deck sharing be allowed in time? Still looking forward to audio and image support. Anki? - yawfosu88 - 2007-08-14 Newbie question: Downloaded anki quite recently and its great because I can use it even when I don't have internet access (wireless connection), but is there anyway to sync it with kanji.koohii.com's reviews or can you only sync it with the anki.com reviews? Also is it a bad idea to use both kanji.koohii and anki for heisig, ie because of overexposure to reviews? Anki? - wrightak - 2007-08-14 yawfosu88, I think I can answer your question (but please correct me if anyone thinks I'm mistaken). I don't think it will be possible to sync with kanji.koohii.com since the algorithm for review scheduling is different. Also, although it won't do too much harm, I wouldn't recommend using more than one reviewing system at the same time. The reason is that you will reduce the efficiency that spaced repitition learning is supposed to bring. Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-14 yeah, keeping them in sync wouldn't be worth it. It would certainly be possible to import your progress on this site into Anki if the kanji & current interval time were made available in a list, but I think most people seem to be happy with reviewing online here anyway. Nukemarine: you can keep the online deck and your local copy in sync, so that changes you make are reflected on the server too. So, if you want to add cards in bulk or edit existing cards, you need to use the local client to do it. There is no facility to add reading information to a list without reading on import, sorry. People can already share their decks by exporting their deck without progress information (exporting is disabled in 0.3.x for now, but when I write a new interface for it it'll come back again). Implementing a sharing system requires a bit of thought, or it'll end up like flashcardexchange where there are thousands of not very useful, incomplete vocabulary lists. Anki? - wrightak - 2007-08-14 I had a few queries about the online study interface. When reviewing online, the question is always in a tiny blue font. Are font sizes imported when syncing? If not, can we have it a bit larger? Also, the ETA is quite often unknown and the number remaining seems to vary a lot too. Is this due to the time taken to send the data back and forth? Although the online interface obviously shouldn't be as detailed as the full program, I think a few more features should be made available. Are there plans to implement any more? Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-14 What browser are you using? 0.3.x syncs all deck-related data including statistics and display information, but IE makes this a pain in the arse to apply dynamically. It should be displayed properly if you use firefox. I'll fix IE when I get the time. I will probably improve the online interface in the future to allow for card editing, and maybe a few other things, but for now my #1 priority is the desktop client. I do not plan to duplicate all of the desktop features on the web interface - it's a duplication of effort and my server would have trouble keeping up. I haven't witnessed such ETA performance myself. Is it consistently misbehaving for you? Anki? - EuPcsl - 2007-08-14 I have sent you the translation into Spanish (Espa?ol) to the email in the anki website. Anki? - wrightak - 2007-08-14 I have to use IE 6 at work unfortunately. I wish I could change but unfortunately anything else is a no go. I totally agree that all of the features shouldn't be duplicated. But it's great to hear that a few more will be. I'm not really worried about what's displayed in terms of ETA and remaining cards but I am worried that it points towards incorrect changes being applied to the underlying structure of the deck. I guess the priority is to make sure that the correct cards are being reviewed at the right times and as long as that's right and as long as it syncs correctly with the desktop client, I'm not too bothered about small fonts and unknown ETAs. Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-14 Pcsl88: thanks for that! I emailed you back, and I've included the translation now. wrighttak: there are consistency checks in there to make sure non-expired cards are not answered, and since the answering works on IDs, it's very unlikely that a bug could cause the wrong card to be answered. The ETA info might theoretically appear in the wrong order making it look like the wrong card has been answered, as I don't enforce the order of page updates, but that's just a user interface bug. I've spent the day chasing down a syncing bug - hopefully I've stamped them all out now. We'll see how things go when I release 0.3.3! Implementing a sharing system requires a bit of thought, or it'll end up like flashcardexchange where there are thousands of not very useful, incomplete vocabulary lists. One way you might consider sharing decks is how phpBB distributes forum mods: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/?sid=2675b4a19778923cb37717c88d7295ff basically people submit mods (or in anki's case, a deck), it gets validated, and then it gets posted in a searchable database. I think you're right about flashcardexchange. I'd imagine if you just added a box that said "share this deck" to the existing interface it would turn out like flashcardexchange. There'd be 100 decks called "japanese". Or a bunch of JPLT2 decks of varying quality and completeness. In the phpBB-style model, a team of moderators could validate decks to ensure they have adequate description, appear complete, etc. For example "Japanese for Busy People" would get rejected, but "Japanese for Busy People -- Book one -- Vocabulary" would be accepted. Similarly, if the "Japanese for Busy People -- Book one -- Vocabulary" only had 57 facts, it's probably not complete and could be rejected. Anyways, I know you have a lot on your plate already, but felt like a little brainstorming
Anki? - alxnd - 2007-08-14 Hi resolve-san, resolve Wrote:'Mass tagging' is already implemented: you can select a group of cards and add/remove tags. Was there something else you needed there?Nope. Just newbieness to the program, didn't realize I already could do that. resolve Wrote:Implementing an SM importer depends on the demand and the complexity involved. I can't promise anything, but if you send me a file I'll at least know what's required.Seeing that you might or might not have time/interest in working on a SM importer, I decided to take a look into it myself, and I think it'd not be too hard to write some code to do a one-time conversion of my entire SM collection into an Anki deck, even as far as my poor programming skills go. Last night I managed to write a piece that converts cards data (i.e., no learning progress data) from SM-exported XML into the old format ".fc" deck, and I could successfully import it into Anki 0.3.2 later. The learning data part is obviously trickier because one would have to convert SM learning parameters into Anki ones. It turns out that SM is also capable of exporting your entire repetition history (without card data) to a text file (when you export to XML, it only provides the last repetition parameters), and seeing as I can already get the card data from the XML file, that's one more option to consider. I'll send you some samples of both files later when I have access to them. Anki? - Aikiboy - 2007-08-14 Great news Resolve! Thanks. Was sick for a couple of weeks and out of country so I really want to catch up. Over 200 hundred today. Should be able to knock out the last batch in a day or so, less than 100, but going to the beach tomorrow so we'll see. ![]() I noticed in your Heisig deck there are spaces for stories. A great idea, btw. Will there be anyway to import our personal stories or will they have to be done one by one? Cheers! Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-14 That depends on if ファブリス has the time and inclination to support exporting progress and/or personal stories. :-) Anki? - jreaves - 2007-08-14 resolve Wrote:jcreaves:as I said last time, the web code is not ready for public release yet. Anki? - uberstuber - 2007-08-14 In Ubuntu Feisty: I installed as per the instructions in README, and get this when I execute anki from the cli: bash Wrote:Traceback (most recent call last):Its possible I did something wrong. Anki? - EuPcsl - 2007-08-14 Resolve, with new versions there are new strings of text without translate, Is there anyway to translate only the new strings, I mean a program or something that doesn't require yo work too much? Ah, there are text of libanki that is translated but doesn't appear as translated into Anki, I hope you fix this .
Anki? - resolve - 2007-08-14 uberstuber: looks like you have old files lying around somewhere. The function was previously named 'addTag'. Does it work if you run it out of the directory? ./anki Pcsl: if you take the .po files from the source, the changed strings have a 'fuzzy' tag. poedit should help you with that. Can you give me an example of something which is translated but doesn't appear? |
