The secrets of studying and such - Raschaverak - 2010-04-17 Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has aleready ecountered these different kind of webpages, which claim that with their system / method you'll be able to get better grades, study effectively, ect. ect. for a small price of course. I've just been looking at this site, http://secretsofstudying.com/ and I found the guy('s voice) hilarious, convincing, but on the other hand, something doesn't seem right about it at all.... Aside that, I don't know, maybe they do have better, and more effective ways of studying than the SRS and such. What do you think? The page got blocked by my pseudoscience detector. Quote:Aside that, I don't know, maybe they do have better, and more effective ways of studying than the SRS and such. What do you think?I think discovering something like this and keeping it a secret is not a very smart idea; someone elsewhere is bound to rediscover it and share it openly. Your best strategy is to trademark it, then make it public. You can get money from authorized books, workshops, etc. (see The Pomodoro Techniqueâ„¢). The secrets of studying and such - Blahah - 2010-04-17 Raschaverak, it's a load of bull. You don't ever need to pay to learn a 'secret'. If there is a better way of studying, a number of people will be aware of it. Of those people, some will choose to make money from the idea and some will not, so you can always find the best information for free. If they claim to have some info nobody else has, that's a great big flashing sign that you should stop reading the site before you get scammed. The secrets of studying and such - Raschaverak - 2010-04-17 Thanks for the reply guys. I wasn't going to pay a dime for it, I was just curious what others think of web-pages like that. The thing what actually bothered me that the guy constantly kept using "we" in the audio, whereas it was supposed to be only 'him" who discovered this great big secret. "I think discovering something like this and keeping it a secret is not a very smart idea; someone elsewhere is bound to rediscover it and share it openly. But with today's internet, it's quite possible that writing a book, and publishing it, will end up as nice links on different torrent sites and such, giving workshops would need much more dedication from the author, and on top of that, he might have used the wrong words by naimg it 'SECRETS of studying', maybe he hasn't discovered anything groundbreaking, he just found a system that's different from the others....so theorethically speaking, there is a possibility, that behind this actually is something.....but in reality, I also don't believe in these kind of claims
The secrets of studying and such - ta12121 - 2010-04-17 There isn't really any secrets to studying. All you have to do is review daily(i.e. The srs) and make some notes daily on each lectures. So when the test comes you've already done the studying and you only need to review for like 30mins-1hour before the test. I've learned the most effective way of studying is doing it daily, I used to think studying two days before all day was enough, but it just puts a strain on you. Plus you don't really remember what the heck you studied after a while. The secrets of studying and such - nest0r - 2010-04-17 Referring to oneself in the plural is known as 'nosism' or somesuch; like the kanji for 'majestic plural' -- I think of it as a rather condescending rhetorical device in many instances, imparting false humility, depending on context. Perhaps he thinks he's hypnotizing you with his linguistic presupposition. ;p http://www.odlt.org/ballast/pluralis_modestiae.html |
